“Nina’s dreams aren’t normal,” Benjamin spoke quietly, is eyes on Nina, who was happily demolishing a toy crane a few feet away.
He sounded completely certain.
Amelia’s face tightened too. She had reached the exact same conclusion.
“Nina dreams about real places,” she said. “And they’re things that haven’t happened yet.
“The car accident last time… and now this…”
“It’s more than that,” Benjamin cut in. “Daniel once told me that right after Nina arrived, she knocked his phone out of his hand.
“She heard the person on the call and said, ‘Bad guy.”
Only now did Benjamin connect the dots.
He added, “Nina had never met that person.”
Everyone in the room knew the pattern.
Because the first time Nina ever saw Ryan, she had pointed straight at him and declared the exact same thing: Bad guy.
The living room fell deathly quiet.
After a long silence, William spoke, voice low and firm, Nina can see the future in her dreams.
“Benjamin-this stays between us. No one else ever hears about it.”
William wasn’t excited about Nina’s gift. He didn’t see it as something to use for his own gain.
He saw danger.
If word ever got out that a little girl could predict the future, Nina would never be safe again.
The world had no shortage of evil people.
Amelia, as her mother, felt that fear ten times deeper.
Her face stayed calm, but her fingers trembled.
“I keep worrying about something else,” she whispered.
“Everything has a price. If she has this… ability… what is costing her?
“What if she’s already paid something we don’t know about-or will have to pay later?”
Amelia didn’t care how special her daughter was.
She only cared that Nina grew up safe and healthy.
“I’ve had the same worry,” William said gently. “Don’t be afraid. I’ll find people who understand this and ask.”

His gaze drifted to Nina, who had reduced the crane to pile of parts. His eyes held both gravity and helpless tenderness.
He said firmly, “Nothing will happen to Nina. I won’t let it.”
He was still reassuring Amelia when Benjamin, who had been quietly scrolling on his phone, looked up.
Benjamin said, “I already have addresses for a few people who know about this kind of thing.
“Dad, stay home with Nina. Amelia and I will go.”
William nodded. “All right.”
He knew his son worked fast, but sometimes Benjamin’s speed still surprised him.
Benjamin and Amelia slipped out without Nina noticing
If she saw them leaving, she would demand to come-and if they refused, the tantrum would be epic.
It was a long while before Nina finally realized they were gone.
“Daddy! Mommy!” She yelled at the top of her lungs.
When no one came, her little mouth turned down, and she toddled over to William.
“Go out! No Nina. Nina go out.”
She was heartbroken. She flopped across his lap, face drooping like a wilted flower.
William couldn’t stand seeing her sad.
He scooped her up at once.
“It’s just going out, right? Grandpa will take you this afternoon.
“How about we visit Lucien?
“And we can go see a friend of mine-he still hasn’t give you your present.”
It was almost lunchtime, so William didn’t leave right away.
Nina was picky about meals and always needed a nap afterward.
He didn’t want to inconvenience anyone.
“No eat.”
The second she heard “go out,” waiting until afternoon was impossible-she wanted to leave now.
