Chapter 526 His Tough Attitude Melted Away
Lucien thought Nina actually looked a little skinnier than before.
There was no way his sweet Nina could get stuck in such a tiny hole.
Lucien was growing more anxious by the second.
Nelson was stuck right behind Nina and didn’t say a word. He leaned in and gently pushed her bottom from behind, trying to shove her all the way through the opening.
The three boys were doing everything they could to help the stuck little girl.
Barry crouched off to the side, murmuring soft words to calm Nina down.
Lucien pulled from the front, while Nelson pushed from the back.
Working together as a team, they finally managed to squeeze Nina’s chubby body all the way through the hole.
The second she was free, Nina burst into loud tears.
She lifted the hem of her top as she cried, exposing her round tummy. “Nina hurt.”
Nina cried, saying her stomach hurt.
It turned out her shirt had ridden up while she was stuck in the narrow gap.
Her bare stomach had rubbed raw against the rough ground with every tug from Lucien, leaving her in pain.
Lucien leaned in for a closer look and saw faint scrapes and red marks across her belly. “I’m so sorry.”
He looked at her sore, scraped skin, filled with guilt as he apologized.
Barry’s heart ached for poor Nina, too.
Nelson was the last to crawl inside. He froze for a moment at the sight of her red tummy, then leaned forward and blew soft air over the sore spot.
He asked, “Still hurt?”
“Yeah.” Nina nodded.
None of the boys had any medicine with them to soothe her scrapes.
They could only stand there staring at her tummy, unsure what to do next.
Both Lucien and Nelson wanted to take Nina home to get cleaned up.
But Nina shook her head firmly, refusing to leave.

She pulled her top back down to cover her red, sore belly.
The sharp pain had faded a little already.
She still wanted to finish their little mission and catch the bad guy first. “Catch bad guy?”
Nina insisted on going through with their plan, so Lucien had no choice but to lead her toward the house.
They soon reached the front door and knocked loudly.
The yard gate and the front door both stayed tightly shut-there was no other way inside, and no more small holes to crawl through.
“Open door.” Nina banged her tiny fist hard against the door, shouting at the top of her lungs.
She banged and yelled until her voice grew hoarse, yet no one came to answer.
Lucien grew frustrated and marched over to pound on the window instead.
The glass was thick and sturdy, not even cracking, no matter how hard he hit it.
He couldn’t break the window, but all their noise and commotion did the trick.
After all their shouting and banging, the front door creaked open just a crack.
Lucien saw the small opening and pushed the door wide open in one sharp motion.
With a thud, someone fell backward onto the floor from behind the door.
Lucien pushed the door all the way open and finally laid eyes on the person hiding inside.
It was just a little kid.
She looked only a bit older than Nina, with longer, messy hair framing her thin face.
She was extremely skinny, which made her big eyes stand out even more.
Now she sat on the floor, staring up at the group of kids with pure fear in her eyes.
Nina took one look at her and didn’t turn her nose up at the girl’s messy appearance at all.
She stepped forward at once, reaching out a hand to help her stand.
Lucien stood there frozen, staring at the strange little girl.
He knew right away this was the one who’d been breaking his toy car wheels.
The security footage hadn’t been clear enough to show her face properly.
He’d never imagined the culprit would look like this-and for a split second, he felt bad for her.
No, don’t think that way.

Lucien shook his head hard, forcing himself to stay stern and unyielding.
I’m the one who keeps having my car wheels broken all the time. I’m the one who deserves sympathy here.
