Chapter 124 Maybe We Could Be Friends
Third-person POV:
Those words felt very familiar.
Laila remembered asking Maris that same question once.
She remained calm. “No, Your Highness.

“When His Majesty called me an example, he didn’t mean every she-wolf must fight in battle. He meant that she-wolves can carry the same courage and strength as he-wolves.”
Her voice softened. She glanced at the bowed maids, then back at Morgana’s flushed, furious face.
“A she-wolf can be soft like moonlight, or fierce like fire.
“She can care for a home like a quiet stream, or stand firm like stone.
“Every she-wolf has her own value and beauty.
“Just like you, Your Highness.”
Morgana froze. “Me?”
“You speak sharply, but everyone sees how deeply you care for His Highness. That kind of loyalty to family is rare. Last year, when the Frostwolf Pack suffered a blizzard, you gave away most of your jewelry under your own name to help them survive winter.”
Morgana parted her lips, but before she could answer, Laila looked at Gracie.
“And Gracie has stayed by your side for years. She’s loyal and careful, taking care of every
detail in your life. That long devotion is also a she-wolf’s strength-steady, lasting, quiet, yet priceless.”
Gracie was stunned as well.
The hall went silent for a moment.
Wind drifted through the columns, carrying the scent of roses from afar.
“If possible, I truly hope we could be friends.”

Laila smiled, her golden eyes shining.
Morgana stared at her for a while, then snapped back.
She snorted and rolled her eyes. “Who would want to be friends with you?!”

Her gaze
shifted. “Fine. Just stop clinging to Samuel. I’ll find you an outstanding he-wolf instead. Deal?”
“Thank you for your concern.”
Laila lowered her head slightly, but her voice stayed firm.
“I’ve already accepted His Highness’s courtship. Werewolves keep their promises. Once words are spoken, they stand. I won’t break that.”
Morgana glared, almost sneering from anger.
How shameless!
So everything I said meant nothing!
I’m going to explode!
But she knew she couldn’t win today, and she couldn’t actually hit Laila. Vaughn and Samuel would both be furious.
Irritated, she waved her hand. “Whatever. Leave. I’m going to rest.”
She turned and walked away.
Laila blinked, then called loudly, “Respectfully taking my leave, Your Highness!”
Morgana jumped at the sudden shout and nearly tripped. Luckily, Gracie caught her.
Embarrassment burned inside her. She had just humiliated herself in front of her rival!
After Morgana left, Laila quietly let out a breath.
Morgana wasn’t that hard to deal with. She was just arrogant with a possessive streak about Samuel.
Outside the palace, Pearl saw her and hurried over. “Ms. Conlay, did Princess Morgana make things hard for you?”
