Chapter 126 Two and a Half Mates?

Third-person POV:

“What? Are you saying Ms. Conlay will have two and a half mates someday?!”

Pearl stood on the grass, glaring at the fortune-teller wrapped in a starmoon shawl.

Half an hour earlier, on their way back to the Silvermoon Pack from the Royal Court, Laila had rescued this Omega fortune-teller from the Rogues.

She insisted on repaying the favor with a reading.

She claimed her predictions had never been wrong.

Right now, Pearl seriously doubted that.

She snorted angrily. “Are you serious? Two is two: Three is three. What is two and a half supposed to mean? What’s the half? A half-dead he-wolf? Or someone torn apart with only half a wolf spirit left?!”

The fortune-teller only smiled mysteriously while mist curled inside her crystal ball.

اد

“The moon’s path never lies. It is two and a half. Maybe someone who can never fully mark her. Maybe a bond that can’t ever be complete. Fate is like moonlight chased by wolves-”

She lightly tapped the crystal ball with her thin fingers.

“You can see it, but you can never truly catch it.”

Pearl’s tail puffed up in anger. “What kind of nonsense is that? I can’t understand a word. Can you just say it clearly?”

She reached toward the crystal ball, but the fortune-teller squeaked and shrank back, her ears flattening.

“Pearl.”

Laila’s voice wasn’t loud, but it immediately stopped Pearl.

Pearl turned and saw Laila smiling gently.

“It’s just a reading. Don’t take it so seriously.”

Laila patted her head. “Okay. Don’t scare her.”

Then she looked at the fortune-teller and gave a small nod. “I accept this as repayment.”

The fortune-teller paused, then quickly packed up her crystal and wrapped herself tighter in her old shawl.

Before slipping into the forest, she turned back once more, her hoarse voice still clear.

“My crystal has never been wrong. May the Moon Goddess lead you through the fog ahead, Laila Conlay.”

Pearl rolled her eyes in the direction the fortune-teller left.

Laila only smiled and shook her head.

She never trusted vague prophecies like that.

She agreed only because the fortune-teller insisted on following the old wolf-clan rule of repaying debts.

As for “two and a half mates”?

Complete nonsense.

She wasn’t the type of she-wolf who would waver between different he-wolf scents.

Her heart was like her claws-set on one path and loyal to one choice.

No matter whether the future held thorns, curses, or hidden dangers in the Royal Court, she had claws sharp enough and a will strong enough to hold her own reins.

She was whole and unyielding.

She didn’t need to depend on any he-wolf.

After returning to the Silvermoon Pack and giving a brief report about Morgana, Faulkner handed her an invitation at once.

“Ms. Conlay, Princess Estelle is hosting a birthday banquet tomorrow at the Frostfang Pack. Our pack has been invited.”
