Chapter 138 Oh God, That Felt Good
Third-person POV:
Estelle’s face twisted with anger.
Laila smiled lightly and looked away.
“Also, you don’t need to throw a tantrum and chase me out.
“With people like you around, I’d be embarrassed to breathe the same air.”
She turned on her heel.
“Pearl, we’re leaving!”
She took her first step.
“This disgusting, reeking place-let’s never come back.”
She took her second step.

“My nose is telling me that if I stay, I might get haunted by the ghosts of dead breeder she- wolves!”
She took her third step.
“Look
The sky over this place is heavy with souls that didn’t get to die on their own terms.”
Before she’d left that morning, Faulkner had mentioned it while fastening her cloak- Frostfang Pack’s Alpha had purchased 19 breeder she-wolves over the years. Fewer than three were still alive.
Some died in childbirth. Some died of illness.
He’d told her to be careful and stay alert.
She had kept it in mind.
Whether those Omegas actually died of illness or something worse-she couldn’t say.
But something was clearly wrong.
Estelle’s eyes could have put holes in Laila’s back, nails digging deep into the armrest.

“Laila-!”
The shout tore out of her throat.
Laila didn’t look back.
:
Her posture was steady, her stride unhurried-she didn’t speed up by a single step.
Only at the last moment, just before crossing the threshold, her voice drifted back in.
“Get a Moon Goddess priestess. Have those souls laid to rest.
“Otherwise, sooner or later-

She paused.
“That resentment will come for you.
The last syllable hung in the air and faded.
The entire hall fell silent-silent as a frozen wasteland.
No one spoke.
No one dared move.
Only the armrest under Estelle’s fingers-scored white with nail marks, line after line, like old wounds that refused to heal.
Laila let a cold smile cross her face.
The invitation was meant to make her the laughingstock of the noble circle, wasn’t it?
But now, the joke’s on Estelle!
As for how those words would ripple through high society-
If Estelle dared pursue charges of disrespect, she’d have to answer for why so many breeder she-wolves had died under her roof.
If she didn’t dare investigate, she would have to swallow the accusation that “wronged souls float above the den.”
Either way, Laila won.

Because Article Seven of Chapter Three of the Rydar Kingdom Code stated: “An Alpha and Luna shall not execute pack servants without due process. If a servant commits a capital offense, the case must be referred to a magistrate for judgment.
“Omega she-wolves purchased for breeding purposes are entitled to equal judicial protection. Those who kill them by private execution shall be charged with murder!”
After Laila left, Samuel followed her out immediately.
The hall stayed quiet for a good while.
Finally, someone-no one was sure who-drew a soft, sharp breath.
Then, the whispers crept through the room like a night breeze through the trees, low and
cautious.
“What she said just now … those she-wolves…”
“Shh. Are you out of your mind? This is Frostfang Pack.”
