Chapter 143 Regret?
Laila’s POV:
“Ah…”
I was stunned.
He even knew I avoided Horace Hall?

Clearly, my mentor, Aerith Westmark-and Dean Greer Livingston-hadn’t held back when it came to sharing my embarrassing stories with Samuel.
Horace Hall was Greer’s residence. Inside was a windowless room with nothing but a cold stone bed and a candle that burned all night. Every time I got into trouble, I’d be locked in there.
So, I never went near that building unless I absolutely had to.
In fact, it wasn’t just me. Every student at Moonlight Academy feared Greer.
Her face was like permafrost that never thawed, and she controlled every bit of disciplinary power at the Academy. Even Aerith addressed her as “Dean” with perfect formality.
Hard to imagine how Samuel managed to live there…
“Sounds like he’s been paying attention to you for a while. He even knows exactly what you like to eat.” Nita’s tone was pure detective.
“Oh, stop.” I laughed to myself. “Don’t read into it. Remember, I was a campus celebrity back then-Viola and the others even made a profile booklet about me and sold it for money. It had my eating habits, fighting style, and even which class I hated most. All spelled out in black and white.”
Thinking back to those ridiculous days still made me laugh.
Five coins a copy. Apparently, they sold out.
“…So?” Nita’s ears stood straight up, her tone dripping with a you-hear-yourself-right? kind of suspicion. “You’re saying-he bought a copy?”
I choked.
“That-that would be perfectly normal. He visited Moonlight Academy and happened to pick

“Picked one up to kill time, happened to flip to the page about your eating habits, happened to memorize that you like spice, and happened to serve you food years later based on that-and just happened to put the last piece of roasted rib on your plate, too?”
I was speechless.
“Laila.” Nita’s voice suddenly slowed, like she’d clamped her jaws on something and refused to

“What word?”
“Happened to.”
I didn’t know what to say.
Before I could answer, Samuel’s voice reached my ears.
He placed the last piece of roasted rib on my plate and ladled another spoonful of juniper sauce on my plate.
“After today’s banquet, Frostfang Pack and Estelle are going to be the talk of the territory for a while. Be careful-she’s petty. She might try something.”
“I know, Your Highness.”
I nodded, then let a grin curve my lips. “After today, a lot of she-wolves are going to be heartbroken, too-when Morgana announced that we’re becoming mates, quite a few of them looked at me like they wanted to tear me apart.”
“A lot of males will envy me, too,” he said, his tone loaded. “And be jealous.”
I laughed. “A she-wolf whose mate bond was already dissolved, becoming the Luna of the kingdom’s Light-if I said I was punching above my weight, that wouldn’t be an exaggeration, right?”
His hand paused over his knife and fork.
Then, he reached over and tapped my forehead lightly with the end of the fork handle.
“Modesty is not your style.”
I tapped him right back before he could dodge.

Direct hit. I pulled my hand back fast, grinning so hard my eyes crinkled.
“I’m not being modest. I know exactly how exceptional I am.”
