The moment the bond severed, my heart felt hollow, as if I had lost the most precious treasure in the world.
For a split second, I felt regret. But Laila’s cold, indifferent expression made me quickly push that feeling aside.
I even wondered whether she had ever truly loved me, or if she had only married me because her mother had chosen me.
Besides, how was an Omega like her going to survive after leaving me? Had she really thought this through?
But it didn’t matter. None of it mattered anymore.
Right now, what I needed to do was secure half of her assets and seize control of the Silvermoon Pack’s territory…
Laila’s POV:
“Laila, your assets…”
Before I could respond to Nita, Holt spoke slowly, “I’ll come collect them personally. Don’t worry. I’m only holding onto them temporarily. I swear.”
Swear?
“Ha.”
I let out a cold laugh. “Can I even trust your word anymore? But whatever. Spending a little money to see your true colors isn’t a loss.”
Besides, I had already taken care of my assets. Even if Holt came for them himself, he wouldn’t get much.
“Laila! Why do you always have to be so nasty?” Holt glared at me coldly. “Stop running your mouth, or else…”
“Or else what? Seventy percent? Sure, 70% is fine. 90% works too. Just leave me a few bucks so I don’t starve to death. Does that satisfy you, Alpha?”

Holt stared at me for a moment, then let out a heavy sigh. “I said 50% means 50%. I do feel a bit guilty for wasting a year of your life, but everything was your own…”
“Save your guilt.” I cut him off. “The guilt of someone who’s stealing half my fortune is worth less than dirt. Let’s just leave it at that.”
Elara snapped furiously, “Laila! Look at yourself Do you have any idea how unbecoming you are right now? Is this how a proper Luna behaves?”
“She’s about to be thrown out. What, you expect her to lick your boots and thank you? You should be thankful she’s not cursing you out.” Tobias fired back on my behalf.
“How dare you speak to me that way!” Elara was seething, smoke practically coming out of her ears. “Just because you’re older doesn’t mean you can spew trash! We never mistreated Laila. Everything happening now is her own doing! Ask her yourself. If she could have just accepted Maris, why did she have to go running to the Alpha King? And so what if we’re keeping half her fortune? We’re doing it for her own good, to protect her from getting robbed the moment she steps outside! When it comes down to it, the Ironclaw Pack has nothing to feel guilty about. You’re the ones being petty, projecting your small-minded suspicions onto honorable people! Face it. The Conlays are down to one weak little Omega. You’re finished. But the Enclaws? Holt is about to become the most sought-after general in the entire Rydar Kingdom!”
“You! You people are nothing but bullies!”
Tobias was so furious his beard was quivering. The next second, he shifted into his wolf form, baring his fangs as he lunged at Elara. But before he could reach her, he collapsed back into human form. He was too old. He could no longer fight in his wolf form.
Tears streamed down his weathered face.
He looked at me. “Laila … Laila … what’s going to become of you…
“It’s our fault. All we ever knew was business. We couldn’t protect you…”
I walked over and took his hand, shaking my head gently. “That’s not true, Mr. Songler. You came all this way for me. That’s more than enough. I’m grateful.”
“No… Laila, that’s not it.” Tobias’s face was ashen with despair. “These black-hearted monsters are only bullying you because your father, your brothers, and your mother’s family are all gone. And us… if our family had even one general, they wouldn’t dare to treat you like this!”
“Hmph!”
Elara let out a cold snort. “If you want to play the victim, do it somewhere else. Don’t dirty
