Chapter 59 A Priceless Bet
Laila’s POV:
“Get out of my way! You’re the one who truly tarnishes the honor of warriors!”
I licked my teeth, almost wanting to bite her throat right there and then.

If not for the war, for army discipline, and for the fact that exposing her crimes-killing surrendered soldiers and slaughtering residents would drag my grandfather down with her, I would have done it already.
Maris stamped her foot in fury.
“Laila, that’s enough! Do you really think I don’t see through you? You came here just to prove you’re better than me. But ask yourself honestly-did you earn the rank of major general with your skill? Let me tell you this, no one in the army truly respects you. Deep down, they all see you as a joke.”
I couldn’t help but let out a cold laugh. “If I’m a joke, isn’t that thanks to you spreading rumors and twisting the truth?”
“Twisting the truth? What truth?” Maris curled her lip and scoffed. “That you’re some alpha wolf? That you’re incredibly amazing? Laila, you’ve heard praise for so long you actually believe it, don’t you? Do you think you’re some invincible female general now?”
She stepped closer, her voice growing sharper and more vicious. “Laila, the armored war wolves are the kingdom’s sharpest fangs. They’re not meant to protect some weak girl, and they’re definitely not tools for you to build political power. If you use them like that, the Battle of Vagen is doomed to fail!”
At that moment, I finally understood what she really wanted.
Beneath all that anger was naked ambition.
“You want to command the armor war warriors?
“That’s right! Only under me can they reach their true worth!” Maris replied proudly.
“Is that so?”
I looked her up and down coldly. “If you want to seize power, fine. Beat me first.”
“You think I’d lose to you?” Maris snapped.
“Of course.”

I said it lightly. “Let’s duel. The rules are simple-if I lose, command of the armored war wolves goes to you.
“But if you lose, you’ll take fifty lashes-I’m a major general, you’re just a colonel. Striking upward in rank deserves punishment.
“Also, every bit of credit you earn on the Vagen Battlefield from now on will be wiped clean. Your merit points drop to zero.”
“Why should I agree to that?!” Maris froze, then shot back. “That’s not fair! If you lose, you only give up command. If I lose, I get whipped fifty times and lose all my achievements!”
“Think the terms aren’t equal? Fine. Then we don’t fight.”
I gave a cold smile and lowered my head, going back to my meal.
Beside me, I could hear Maris’s furious breathing. The anxiety and rage in her pheromones were so thick they almost felt solid.
But honestly, I wasn’t the one in a hurry.
After a moment, she slammed her hand on the table.
“Fine! I agree! I don’t believe for a second that I’ll lose to you!”
“It’s a deal.”
I raised my eyes and said coldly, “See you at the training ground in half an hour!”
Third-Person’s POV:
The news spread fast through the entire camp-Maris had challenged Laila for control of the armored war wolves.
Even Prince Vance heard about it.
He gave orders at once. “Cancel all evening traning today. Everyone’s free to watch.”
Finneas looked uneasy. “Your Highness, Laila is strong, but General Duffy earned her rank the hard way, too. Isn’t this a bit risky?”
Samuel didn’t even look up. “Laila won’t lose.”
