I stared at their hands clasped together for a second before looking up at Maris. In the vision from yesterday, Holt was blocking her face, so I hadn’t seen her clearly.
She had amber eyes.
Her fur was a golden-wheat color mixed with some dull grayish-green. There was a tiny white scar on the bridge of her nose-probably a trophy from some battle.
She wasn’t fully in human form. She still kept her fluffy tail and pointed ears, and she gave off the vibe of a proud, aggressive soldier.
Not exactly pretty, but definitely full of energy.
I took a deep breath. “Say what you want to say.”
“Laila!” Maris snapped. “I want a clear answer. Are you going to accept reality and share a mate and a pack with me? Don’t try that weak Ornega act with me. It might work on guys, but it won’t work on me.”
“Let me tear her throat out! Now!” Nita roared in my mind. I could almost feel her claws pressed against Maris’s warm fur. “Who does she think she is, talking to you like you’re a criminal?!”
“Quiet.” I pushed down my wolf spirit’s rage with stronger willpower. Her power wasn’t 100% back yet; I needed one more night under the moonlight to sharpen her fangs. “Then, let me ask you, General Duffy. Do I even have another choice besides ‘accepting’ this?”
“Choice?” She snorted, her tail smacking the floor in annoyance. “Whether you have another choice or not is your problem.”
My problem? If she didn’t sneak in as the ‘other woman,’ would I even be making this choice right now?
But I was done arguing with them. A skunk never smells its own stink.
“Of course I’m willing to live peacefully with you” I even let out a small smile.
Once the mate bond was broken, Holt and I would be total strangers.
But Maris still wasn’t satisfied. She huffed, her tail twitching back and forth. “I told you, don’t lie to me! I can tell right away if you’re lying. If you really felt that way, you wouldn’t have run to the Royal Court, crying and trying to get the Alpha King to take back his order. Do you

“Maris!” My expression darkened. “Watch your mouth. The Alpha King already has a queen. Or are you saying every female who isn’t like you only knows how to act ‘weak’?”
I pointed at Holt, my voice steady. “And he’s the one who went to Silvermoon Pack and swore to my mom that he would love only me and never take another mate. He’s the one who broke the bond and the promise. So, the ones who should be ashamed and begging for forgiveness are you two, not me!”
Maris let out an over-the-top laugh and shot Holt a sideways look. “Oh? You made such a sweet promise? I guess I’m the one who doesn’t belong here. Maybe I should leave?”
Holt looked embarrassed and guilty for a split second before getting angry. “Laila, stop bringing up the past! I know I broke my promise, but I didn’t know I was going to meet Maris back then. She’s my true love. My heart can’t say no to her.
“Laila, Maris and I don’t want to hurt you. If you’re willing to get along, you’ll always be the main Luna of Ironclaw Pack. That won’t change. And if you still can’t feel at ease…” He paused, like he was offering some grand favor. can promise that the pups Maris and I have later can be raised by you.”
“What?” I almost couldn’t believe it. “So I’m supposed to accept both of you and raise your pups? What about you?”
“We have more important things to do.”
