My Convicted Wife is My Mate (Bella and Kane) novel Chapter 30

chapter 26-1
BELLA’S POV

Payday finally came, and after collecting my envelope, I decided it was time for Kane to have a phone of his own. It wasn’t just about convenience. It was about safety too. If something happened, I wanted to be able to reach him.

He didn’t agree, of course.

“It’s fine that I don’t have a phone,” Kane said calmly as we walked down the busy street toward the electronics shop.

“You need one,” I replied “Nowadays, everyone has a phone. It’ll be easier for companies to contact you when you apply for jobs.”

He gave a quiet grunt, like he wasn’t convinced.

I tried to lighten the mood. “Who knows, maybe you’ll follow Tara’s advice and become an actor or model. You’ll need agents and directors calling you.”

Kane snorted. “Wolves shouldn’t be bothered about stuff like that,”

That word “wolves” caught my attention. He rarely mentioned anything about his pack or his past. My curiosity got the better of me.

“Is that how your pack is? Are they from around here?” I asked softly.

He didn’t respond. His expression stayed unreadable. His eyes stayed straight ahead. I noticed how his jaw tightened a little bit.

“It’s okay,” I said with a small smile. “You don’t have to talk about it.”

He said nothing, but I could feel the tension rolling off him.

“Let’s just focus on the phone,” I said quickly.

He narrowed his eyes at ,e. “The one I don’t need.”

I sighed but smiled back. “It’ll be convenient for us, Kane. If one of us gets home late, or if something happens, we can call each other.”

He studied me for a moment, then nodded once. “Fine. Let’s get the phone.”

We reached the electronics store, and I pushed the glass door open. A bell chimed overhead, and we stepped in. The place was filled with bright lights and lots of people.

Kane immediately tensed. He stayed close behind me but far from the people shopping. He stood still. His eyes scanned the store like he was assessing threats instead of phones.

I guided him toward a wall display filled with budget-friendly models. These were the ones I’d researched.

“They’re not as fancy as the newer ones,” I told him, trying to sound cheerful. “But they’ve got Wi-Fi and all the basics.” I rubbed my arm awkwardly. “When I earn a bit more, maybe I’ll…”

“This model is good,” he interrupted.

I blinked. “You haven’t even-”

Before I could finish, he picked up the sample phone and began flipping through its settings like he’d done it a hundred times.

His fingers moved fast. He even opened the camera app and adjusted its focus. Then he started talking about RAM, processors, and storage.

I stared at him. “You sound like a tech expert.”

He shrugged. “I learn fast.”

Before I could say more, I heard a familiar voice.

“Bella?”

I turned to see who had called my name.

Jane Hudson stood there, perfectly dressed as always. She was holding several shopping bags. Nina was beside her.

Great.

I turned back to Kane. “Which model do you prefer?”

“This one,” he said, pointing to the mid-priced phone I’d recommended earlier. His tone was smooth. He didn’t seem affected at all but I noticed the small look of pride in his eyes, as if he admired how I’d handled them.

“Great,” I said “Let’s go.”

We walked to the counter, and I handed the phone to the cashier. As he rang it up, I prepaid for three months of service, calculating how much I’d have left for groceries.

From the corner of my eye, I saw Nina and Jane watching.

“Wow, Bella,” Nina said loudly. “You’re paying for his phone?” She snickered. “Oooh, I get it now.”

I ignored her, but she stepped closer. She was now standing directly in front of Kane. Her perfume hit me so hard that it made my stomach twist.

“You don’t have to settle for her,” she said to Kane. Her tone turned sultry. “Why don’t you break up with her? I can get you a better phone. In fact, you can choose any phone here.” She smiled, batting her lashes.

I froze. Oh no.

What the hell was wrong with this girl?

Kane’s expression darkened a bit. It was a change so subtle most people wouldn’t notice. But I did.

Still, she kept going, oblivious. “What do you think? If you break up with her, we can be friends. I’ll take you for a spin in my BMW. I know people in the film circle. You could easily become a star with your looks.”

I almost laughed. She was practically begging to humiliate herself.

Kane stared at her. He looked her up and down slowly then said,

“I’m not interested in becoming a star. And as for your BMW…” His voice dropped “Make sure you take good care of it.”

Her face flushed bright red. She stammered, “Do you… do you know who I am? I can make you-”
