My Convicted Wife is My Mate (Bella and Kane) novel Chapter 41

chapter 35
BELLA’S POV

I thought I had heard Kane’s voice, but I wasn’t sure. The tone had sounded like his. The voice was deep and commanding but that voice had been furious. I had never heard Kane angry before. His voice was always level, calm, controlled.

The sound I had heard had been raw, almost savage.

Could it really have been him?

The thought went on and on in my mind even as everything else blurred together. My clothes were drenched, sticking to my body. The ugly neon uniform of a street cleaner was heavy and cold against my skin. My hair was still clutched in Derek’s hand. My scalp burned where he had pulled too hard. My lungs ached from all the water I had swallowed. My throat was raw from screaming.

I was exhausted.

I wiped my mouth on my sleeve, trembling. My eyes stung. My breathing was heavy

Then suddenly, the pressure on my head lightened.

Derek’s hand jerked once in my hair, then released me. I collapsed forward, coughing. I expected another blow, another shove into the pond but it never came.

I blinked water out of my eyes and looked up.

Several security guards had entered the room. There must have been at least six of them. Some of them were wolves. Some were human. One man stood at the center of them all, clearly in charge.

He was dressed in a sleek black suit, not a uniform, but the authority in his stance was obvious. He was tall with broad shoulders. He had an aura of authority, not like an Alpha. Maybe like a Beta.

Derek’s face twisted in anger as he looked at them.

“What the hell is this?” he growled.

The man in the suit didn’t flinch.

“You heard the Alpha,” he said evenly. “He does not wish to be disturbed. You are disturbing him.”

I froze. Alpha?

“To the security team,” the man added. “Restrain him.”

Derek’s roar shook the air. “WHAT!? What is the meaning of this?”

The man remained calm.

“You have offended Alpha Stonewood with your noise,” he said. “May I suggest you refrain from doing it again. I do not think he will be forgiving.”

My heart stuttered. Alpha Stonewood?

“Noise?” Derek snapped “Why the hell would he care about noise or about this bitch!? This is the woman who killed his fiancée!”

I went still. My blood turned to ice.

Had… Alpha Stonewood just saved me? But that didn’t make sense. I had killed his ex-fiancée. Or at least, that was what everyone believed. Why would he-?

The guards closed in on Derek, wrestling his arms behind his back. He struggled violently. His body half-shifted as his anger boiled over. His claws extended; his teeth bared.

But there were too many of them, and even Derek knew better than to fully shift in front of Stonewood’s men.
