chapter 6
BELLA’S POV
He caught me staring.
Heat spread across my face as his dark intense eyes locked onto mine. He smirked like he could read every thought in my head. He lifted his hand and without a word, slid the ring from his finger.
“This,” Kane said, turning the ring between his fingers, “is nothing more than a trinket. It’s common among wandering wolves. It’s counterfeit, sold by underground witches to those desperate for a taste of power.”
He slipped it into his pocket casually “It has no value.”
I blinked at him and my lips parted slightly. Even his voice carried power. It was deep and unshakable. The sound of it alone made my knees weak.
Still… his words cut at me. My mind raced as I remembered the rumors, the whispers.
So it’s true… he was expelled. His wolf really was sealed. His life must have been unbearably hard.
I thought of the loneliness, the exile, the need to buy false charms just to pretend.
My heart ached, imagining what he must have endured. It couldn’t have been easy for him. He must have had a hard life. I, out of all people, knew what that felt like.
I couldn’t help but feel a bit sorry for him.
And yet… he stands here like this? With this aura?
The loud sound of Kathy’s laugh broke my thoughts.
“How touching,” she sneered. Her voice echoed in the hushed hall. “Our little Bella is marrying a man who buys fake rings from witches. Damien,” she clutched Damien’s arm dramatically—“tell me, doesn’t this make you pity her? You, the true Alpha heir, standing next to this…sealed rogue.”
Damien shifted uneasily, but Kane didn’t flinch. His posture remained calm, confident even, as if her words meant nothing to him.
He finally turned his head toward Damien with those intense eyes of his. The weight of it made even Damien straighten his back nervously. Even Damien could feel the aura of Kane. It was obvious. Next to Kane’s composed maturity, Damien looked boyish, foolish… weak.
I almost smiled at the difference between them.
So this is the man Kathy traded me for. An heir, yes, but spineless in the face of a rough
Kathy’s smirk faltered. She could feel it too, the way Kane made Damien look like a child who had borrowed his father’s crown.
