My ex husband wants me back (Daven and Althea) novel Chapter 824

[Chris: Have you made it home yet? If my calculations are correct, you should have arrived two hours ago. I just finished a meeting. Exhausting.]

Naomi read the message while finishing the glass of milk Mr. Smith had prepared for her. The old man had insisted she drink it all because he felt she had lost weight during her stay in Sun City.

Naturally, that complaint earned him a sharp retort from Cale. He refused to believe Naomi had lost weight. After all, she had eaten heartily the entire time she was in Sun City. Lydia agreed with him as well.

"I was just curious about how Mr. Kai pays attention to Miss Naomi. It turns out you both really care about Miss Naomi. That makes me very happy," he said with a broad smile.

As though what he had said earlier was nothing more than a passing breeze. Nothing that needed to be taken seriously. Unlike Cale, who continued grumbling.

Naomi pulled out a chair and sat down comfortably. A servant offered her some sliced fruit, but she declined. She turned her attention back to her phone and typed a reply.

[Naomi: Yes, I got home an hour ago. There isn't a job in the world that isn't exhausting, Chris. Is complaining your hobby? Oh, I want to know how that woman is doing.]

Naomi waited a long time for a response from Chris, but even after thirty minutes had passed, he still hadn't replied. "Damn it," Naomi clicked her tongue, feeling as though she had wasted valuable time on a single message.

Even so, a strong curiosity lingered within her. She hoped Chris hadn't been too late to find that woman and make sure she was all right.

Since no more messages came in, Naomi finally set her phone down on the table. She tried to convince herself that whatever Chris was doing was none of her business. But the harder she tried to ignore it, the more often her thoughts drifted back to their conversation at the restaurant that afternoon.

About Felicia and the way Chris had looked at her. Then the injury on the woman's face, which Naomi had found impossible to miss. And the expression on Chris's face when he saw that she was hurt.

Naomi clicked her tongue softly and leaned back in her chair. How annoying. She had already promised herself she wouldn't interfere in other people's affairs. No. When it came to Chris, it was her business too.

Why? Because Cale was trying to set her up with Chris. If Chris liked another woman and then married her merely as a distraction—even though it could also be said that she was using Chris to secure her own position—it still felt uncomfortable.
