My ex husband wants me back (Daven and Althea) novel Chapter 831

“Oh, right. I finally get it.” Naomi leaned back. “You seem doubtful about whether I can be trusted.”

The silence lasted for several seconds. Then suddenly Chris laughed—actually laughed. The kind of laugh that immediately made Naomi glare at him.

“Why are you laughing?”

“Good grief.” Chris rubbed his face while still smiling. “I didn’t expect you to take it that far.”

“That’s not a compliment,” Naomi said sarcastically.

“It’s not,” Chris replied, still not stopping his laughter. He shifted slightly in his seat to make himself more comfortable while talking to the girl beside him. “It’s not because I don’t trust you, Naomi.”

For the first time since the topic had come up, his tone sounded much more serious. “I just don’t want to drag you into problems that have nothing to do with you.”

Naomi was about to respond, but stopped herself when she looked at Chris’s serious expression.

“What matters is,” Chris said, gently patting the top of Naomi’s head, “she’s doing fine.”

Naomi let out a quiet sigh. It sounded sincere, and what Chris had said about “problems” did make sense. There were already enough problems involving her. She had no desire to add another one to the list.

“All right,” Naomi said softly. “At least I know she’s doing fine.”

For a while, neither of them spoke again. But the atmosphere inside the car felt better than before.

Eventually, their vehicle began to slow down. The view outside the window gradually changed. The city buildings disappeared, replaced by a much quieter and more secluded upscale residential area.

That immediately drew Naomi’s attention.

Ahead of them, a massive gate bearing the Evermont family crest slowly opened. A long road illuminated by garden lights stretched toward the grand mansion standing at the center of the vast estate.

Naomi’s breath unconsciously caught for a moment.

The Evermont family mansion stood magnificently before them. Rows of garden lights cast a golden glow along the driveway leading to the main building. From a distance, the large windows covering much of the mansion’s walls revealed the lively gathering already underway inside.

The car finally came to a stop directly in front of the main staircase.

A servant immediately opened the door.

Naomi looked outside for a few seconds before finally moving. But before she could step out on her own, Chris was already standing beside the door with his hand extended toward her.
