And now, right in front of him? Naomi looked far more relaxed and had even smiled broadly several times.
On the other side of the hall, Silas Evermont watched everything with an expression that was becoming increasingly difficult to read. The situation was not unfolding according to his plan. Falcon should have been given an opportunity to speak with Naomi.
Instead, the entire room’s attention was now focused on the man beside Naomi—Chris Miller.
And that was not what he wanted. He should have anticipated that Cale Miller would never act without a plan. Most likely, the man would not be able to attend the event tonight. It did not matter. He did not care if Cale truly failed to appear. He needed Naomi Devereux to make everything proceed smoothly.
But he had let his guard down. Cale would never leave Naomi alone. And of course, he would have assigned someone he trusted to stay by Naomi’s side. Not merely to act as a guardian for the last heir of the Devereux family, but also to keep his hold firmly in place so that Naomi remained under his protection.
“Damn it!” Silas growled, unconsciously clenching his fist as tightly as he could.
His grip on the glass in his hand tightened further. His jaw hardened. For years, he had built his position within the Devereux family with careful calculation. He knew how to read people, predict their moves, and even exploit weaknesses his opponents did not realize they possessed.
All while expanding his business within the sphere of the Devereux family's influence.
But there was one thing that had always made things difficult for him: Cale Miller. The man rarely made excessive moves, rarely reacted too strongly, and sometimes even appeared uninterested in the game being played. Yet every time he acted, everything happened beyond expectation.
Silas had just let out a long breath when the atmosphere in the hall shifted once again. At first, only a few people turned their heads, then more and more directed their attention toward a single point.
The conversations that had filled the room gradually faded. Some guests stopped speaking mid-conversation. Others even turned their bodies completely just to face the main entrance.
It was not only Silas. The change in atmosphere was so obvious that Naomi noticed it as well. She looked toward the same spot, and Chris did the same.
And the moment their gazes landed on the entrance to the hall, the figure who appeared there seemed to bring the entire room to a standstill for several seconds.
