“Mr. Kai.” A friendly smile appeared on his face. “I’m very glad you could make it.”
Cale stopped walking. His gaze met Silas’s for several seconds before the corner of his lips lifted slightly. “Really?”
That simple question made Silas laugh. “Of course. This banquet wouldn’t be complete without your presence. In fact, when Miss Naomi said there was a chance you wouldn’t attend, I felt a little... disappointed.”
“Then I’m honored.” Cale’s tone remained flat. He briefly patted Silas on the shoulder. “I’ll enjoy the party.”
Silas smiled broadly, allowing Cale to do whatever he wished. The man’s calm demeanor and apparent lack of interest in being there only made him even harder for Silas to read.
Cale’s gaze then moved past Silas’s shoulder. It swept across the hall, passing over the guests and occasionally returning a faint smile to those who greeted him. Then... his attention settled on a man standing not far from Naomi.
Cale was certain that was Don Falcon.
Exactly as he had predicted—the man had come to this party. He wanted to get close to Naomi. Whatever his objective was, one thing was clear: Silas and Falcon were connected. And Cale would not allow that to happen.
“You must be Cale Miller,” greeted the man Cale had been observing.
Cale smiled faintly. “Yes, and...”
Falcon extended his hand confidently. “Don Falcon.”
“Ah.” Cale chuckled. He accepted the offered hand with a firm shake. “So you’re Don Falcon? Did you come here to collect the money my younger sister borrowed from you?”
Falcon blinked, clearly not expecting Cale to say something so unexpected.
