“Boss, I handed the company over to you because I trusted you and saw your potential. But I never expected you to go behind my back like this! A fire is a major incident, and you actually tried to hide it from me!” The old woman was furious, slamming her cane heavily against the floor twice.
Elena, seeing how unreasonable her grandmother was being, felt a surge of dissatisfaction.
“Grandma, do you really trust Uncle Edward and his family that much? My dad is your son, too. You know his character better than anyone. Why would he lie to you? Instead, you’re accusing him indiscriminately without even checking the facts. It’s obvious Uncle Edward is trying to stir up trouble, yet you’re pressuring my dad instead of blaming them!”
“Last night, there was clearly a fire at the factory next door. You refused to believe it and insisted it was our warehouse. What exactly is your agenda here? Do I really need to spell it out?”
“Elena, you have a lot of nerve! How dare you speak to Grandma like that!” Cathy shouted.
Elena didn’t back down in the slightest. She looked straight at her cousin. “Cathy, you’re so certain that our warehouse caught fire last night and that we covered it up. How about we make a bet?”
“Fine! What do you want to bet?” Cathy asked.
She had received reliable intelligence that a fire had indeed occurred there last night. Elena was done for.
“If there really was a fire, my father and I will leave the company. But if there wasn’t... Uncle Edward has to apologize to my father, and you... you will get on your knees, slap yourself across the face ten times, and admit you were wrong!”
“Elena, how can you be so...” Edward started, realizing immediately it was a trap. He naturally didn't want to agree.
But Cathy was confident. “Fine, I accept! Elena, make sure you remember your words!”
“I’ll remember. But we need a witness. Grandma, are you willing to witness this?”
The old woman’s face fell. Why should she be a witness to this?
“Grandma, just agree to it!” Cathy urged her.
