Ever since Elena had kicked her out of Evergold Heights, Emily had scammed someone out of money, and they hadn't let it slide.
With nowhere to run and at her family's insistence, she had been forced to marry far away.
She was sent to this godforsaken place called Riverton—poor, undeveloped, and surrounded by endless mountains.
The family she married into was destitute.
She had gone out today and never expected to find Elena washed up by the river.
She couldn't believe her eyes at first.
Remembering how Elena had driven her away, hatred surged in her heart, so she dragged her back.
*Slap!*
Emily stepped forward and slapped Elena across the face.
"Elena, look at you now. Half-dead. It makes me so happy to see you like this! It's proof that God has eyes to let you fall into my hands!"
Just then, a man rushed in.
"Emily, is it true? Did you really catch Elena?" Harrison asked breathlessly.
He had rushed over the moment he heard Emily's news. This was huge.
"See for yourself. Isn't that her?" Emily glanced at Elena.
Harrison saw Elena looking disheveled and covered in wounds. He could hardly believe it.
"What happened to her? How did she end up like this?"
It looked like she had been through a war.
He was familiar with this look. Back when Dylan had locked him in a cage with wolves, he had looked just as bad.
Although he had kept his life, his heart was filled with hatred.
So, hearing that Emily had caught her, he was thrilled at the chance for revenge.
