"Emily!" her adoptive mother, Amanda, called out, chasing after them.-

Her heart ached to see the daughter she had raised for eighteen years leave just like that.

Emily shot her a venomous glare. "Don't call my name. This is my real mother!"

Melissa added coolly, "We've brought your daughter back to you. She's over there. Stop bothering our Emily."

Then, the luxury car sped away.

Amanda turned to look at Elena, whose face was a mask of indifference.

This girl was a stranger to her. She had never even seen her own biological daughter before.

Still, she couldn't stop herself. She walked over and pulled Elena into a hug.

"Your name is Elena, right? I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry! It was my fault for not watching you closely enough back then..." Amanda's voice broke with a sob.

This was her child.

Elena had seen the DNA test results from the Sterlings, so she had no doubts.

"Mom..." Elena said softly.

"My dear child! Come on inside!"

Amanda led Elena into the house.

Elena took in her surroundings. The house wasn't much.

It was an old building, probably over twenty years old, and could be summed up in three words: dirty, cluttered, and run-down.

Amanda spoke with a sense of shame. "Elena, I need to be honest with you about our family's situation. I know you're used to a life of comfort, but now... well, you can see what our home is like."

"You have an older brother, a second brother, and a sister, Claire. That makes you the fourth. And you have a younger brother still in high school. We're nothing like the Sterlings."

"I understand. I don't mind," Elena said quietly.

Although she didn't feel any deep connection to this family yet, she made a silent vow.

She would make the Sterlings regret everything. She would make them pay.

As for the Whelans, she would help them build a better life.

Luckily, she had always kept her other identities a secret from the Sterlings.

Otherwise, they never would have let her go so easily.
