In a matter of moments, a small mountain of food had piled up in Elena's plate.
Though she had lived well with the Sterlings, no one had ever put food on her plate like this.
"Thank you," Elena said, a warmth spreading through her chest.
"It's a shame our youngest is away at school. He doesn't come home often, and today's a Monday. Otherwise, he could have met you too," Amanda added.
After dinner, Elena offered to help clear the table, but Claire and her brothers insisted she go rest.
Amanda had prepared a small room for her. It wasn't large, but it felt cozy and warm.
Standing by the window, Elena took out her phone and made a call.
"Hello, Boss. What are your orders?"
"Effective immediately, terminate all partnerships with the Sterling Group."
"Understood! Boss, I'm so glad you've finally come to your senses. We've been losing money propping up the Sterling family for years. And that old bastard, Thomas Sterling, has gotten used to it, treating us like his personal ATM! He even gives us attitude! Who the hell does the Sterling family think they are..."
Hanging up, Elena's thoughts returned to her murder. A cold hatred filled her.
She had done so much for the Sterling family from the shadows, and in return, they had poisoned and dismembered her.
They weren't human.
If she could build the Sterling family up, she could just as easily tear them down.
...
Meanwhile, back at the Sterling mansion.
The true heiress, Emily, had settled into her new life.
Looking at the magnificent villa, the soft cashmere carpets, and the sparkling crystal chandeliers, she felt like she had stepped into paradise.
It was all so dreamlike.
Melissa gave her a tour of her new room.
"Emily, this is your room. Your father and I had it specially designed to be a princess room. What do you think? Are you happy with it?"
Emily was speechless.
