Rebuffed, Lorna was secretly furious but put on a pitiful face. "I'm sorry, that was my misunderstanding."
Her innocent and pitiful act immediately prompted everyone to step up and defend her.
Charles led the charge as her number one lapdog.
"Theresa, Lorna asked you to buy coffee for everyone, so just go do it. What are you acting all high and mighty for? Can't you just run an errand for the team?"
Theresa shot him an icy glare. "If you're so eager, you do it. If you want to fall all over yourself kissing up to her, be my guest, but leave me out of it."
Besides, Lorna wasn't the chairman's daughter at all. Theresa was.
She had no intention of catering to such a vain woman.
"You're going too far, Theresa. It's one thing that you're always antisocial, but the moment you're asked to do something for your coworkers, you catch an attitude like everyone owes you something!"
"Yeah, Lorna asking you is her doing you a favor. An heiress is treating us to coffee, you should consider it an honor to help out. Get moving!"
"Ever since Lorna joined the company, Theresa has always had a problem with her. You don't think she's jealous, do you?"
"Well, jealousy won't get her anywhere. Some people are just born with a silver spoon. You’re not in the same league. If she's mad, she should just blame her own bad luck."
Hearing the relentless attacks from Lorna's followers, Theresa reached her breaking point.
"What nonsense are all of you spouting? When did I ever get jealous of her? I don't want coffee, is that a crime? Why should I be the one running errands? You're trying to guilt-trip me, and let me tell you, I don't care, so your guilt trips won't work!"
"And for the record, she's not the chairman's daughter. All of you are kissing up to her right now—aren't you afraid of looking like complete idiots later?"
Lorna secretly clenched her fists. This Theresa Graham was nothing but a low-level employee, yet she dared to speak to her like that!
So, she replied with a cold tone, "If you're claiming I'm not the chairman's daughter, what, are you?"
"You guys actually don't believe me!"
Charles sneered. "Why would we believe you? Hurry up and go buy the coffee. You're the department's gopher, serving the team is part of your job. If you don't go, are we supposed to make Lorna do it? You're totally clueless! It's no wonder you're broke! You'll be scraping the bottom of the barrel your whole life!"
Theresa was utterly speechless.
At that moment, the commotion caught the attention of Rachel Ward.
"What's going on here? Why is everyone crowding around?" Rachel asked.
Charles, ever the suck-up, instantly chimed in, "Ms. Ward, here's what happened. Lorna offered to buy everyone coffee and asked Theresa, who isn't doing anything, to go pick it up, but she refused."
"Why should I agree to it? Why don't you go do it yourself?" Theresa fired right back at him.
