"Who I do it for is none of your business. As long as it's not for you, that's all that matters. If Amber Sinclair sent you here, I suggest you drop it!"
As they were talking, a car suddenly lost control and careened wildly toward them.
"Dylan!" Elena screamed in alarm.
She lunged forward and shoved him hard to the side. The car had swerved directly toward Dylan's back; if Elena hadn't pushed him out of the way, he would have taken a direct hit.
Isabella was equally terrified and immediately scrambled out of the way.
The speeding car crashed violently into the nearby brick wall before finally coming to a halt.
A deafening crash echoed through the area.
The driver was a woman, and she looked completely shell-shocked. She sat frozen in the driver's seat, pale and trembling uncontrollably.
A short while later, the police arrived.
After a brief investigation, they learned that the driver had accidentally slammed her foot on the gas instead of the brake while reversing, sending the car shooting backward.
Thankfully, the vehicle had hit the wall and stopped, and no one at the scene was injured.
Once the driver was taken aside for questioning, a tow truck arrived to haul the wrecked vehicle away.
"That must have just been an accident," Elena remarked.
It certainly didn't look intentional.
"It probably was. You can't fake the sheer terror on that woman's face. Looks like I just had really bad luck walking out the door today." Dylan offered a self-deprecating chuckle.
He had just narrowly avoided being flattened in a traffic accident.
"Come on, get on. We should get going!" Dylan said.
The two of them rode off on the delivery scooter.
Isabella remained standing there, watching them leave, a dark flash of resentment crossing her eyes.
"Where are we heading next?" Elena asked.
"I have one more order to drop off. Once that's done, we'll go grab a bite."
