The Whelan family residence.
After returning home, Jane Whelan shared the news with everyone.
Lauren Whelan crossed her arms and sneered, "Edward, Maggie, did you hear what Jane just said? At the end of the day, this was entirely due to your own lack of character! And you tried to blame someone else!"
Edward Whelan's face flushed bright red. He simply couldn't comprehend it. Aurelis Holdings was partnering with the factory itself.
Did it really matter if the general manager was Daniel or him?
Why would they only honor the deal out of respect for Daniel?
Was his older brother's reputation really worth that much?
"Uncle Edward, Aunt Maggie, I really did ask him for you, and that's exactly what he said," Jane explained.
Maggie Whelan had completely lost her usual arrogance.
She looked at Jane pleadingly. "Jane, did you ask Mr. Maddox if there was any room for negotiation? Aren't you two close? Can't you put in a good word for us?"
"I'm sorry, Aunt Maggie. Mr. Maddox was extremely annoyed by the whole situation. The fact that he didn't take his anger out on me is a miracle in itself. I really can't help you this time!"
Gavin chimed in, "Edward, Maggie, I think Jane has done all she can. It puts her in a terrible position. Stop pressuring her. Are you trying to force her to offend Sean Maddox for your sake?"
Edward and Maggie sighed in defeat. If Jane couldn't fix it, there was nothing they could do.
"Uncle Edward, Aunt Maggie, did you two somehow offend Mr. Maddox?" Jane asked suspiciously.
"Offend him? What do you mean by that?" Maggie asked, confused.
"Put it this way: when I brought the topic up, he was furious. He was specifically enraged by the fact that Uncle Edward was made general manager of the factory. I have to wonder if you crossed him somehow. Why else would he terminate the contract the second the factory was handed over to you?"
