Standing there completely exposed, Jane was engulfed in a suffocating wave of embarrassment.
"What... what exactly are you two doing? Look, this feels really awkward. Maybe I should just go," Bianca said, carefully gauging Sean's reaction.
At that moment, Jane felt more certain than ever that Sean and Bianca's relationship was a complete sham.
Any real girlfriend would have blown a fuse seeing another woman naked in her boyfriend's office. Bianca's reaction was way too casual. She clearly didn't care about Sean.
It really was just a fake romance.
"Stop right there," Sean said calmly. "The one who needs to leave isn't you. It's her."
Jane stared at him in disbelief. "Mr. Maddox, what... what do you mean? Don't you like me at all? Do you really feel nothing for me?"
Since she had already crossed the point of no return, she had to know the truth.
"When did I ever say I liked you? What exactly is going through your head, Jane?" Sean scoffed, feeling almost insulted. How could he ever be interested in a woman like her?
Jane's eyes widened in panic. She had walked in so confident, absolutely certain that she was special to him. "Then... then why did you bend the rules to promote me? Everyone else starts at the bottom, but I had only been here a few days before you moved me to the executive suite to be your assistant. Doesn't that mean you like me?"
Sean rubbed his temples, letting out a heavy sigh.
He had no idea his casual favor would lead to such a delusional misunderstanding.
"Let me give it to you straight, Jane. The only reason I had my people promote you was out of respect for Elena. Because you're her cousin, I gave you a pass. I didn't want to see you struggling at the bottom, so I offered you a shortcut. I never imagined you'd twist that into thinking I had feelings for you. You really think highly of yourself, don't you?"
"What did you just say?" Jane gasped, her eyes wide with shock.
