"Are you naturally this much of a snob, or do you practice?" Elena demanded, stepping forward.
She hadn't wanted to intervene, but the associate's attitude was exceptionally vile.
"Elena, don't even waste your breath arguing. I'm texting their manager right now."
Theresa pulled out her phone and fired off a quick text to the store manager.
She used to frequent this boutique and was very close with the manager. This rude associate was clearly a new hire who had no idea who she was dealing with.
Seconds after the text was sent, the manager came sprinting out of the back room.
Theresa was one of their most elite VIP clients. When a client of that caliber called, you ran until your legs gave out.
"Miss El—" The manager barely got the name out before Theresa cut her off.
"Just call me Theresa, Mrs. Layton."
"Of course, Theresa. How can I assist you today?" Mrs. Layton asked, her tone incredibly deferential.
The rude sales associate stared in shock, completely dumbfounded by the manager's subservient behavior toward a girl in plain clothes.
"I was trying to buy this bag, but your employee here told me I couldn't afford it and ordered me not to touch it."
Mrs. Layton whipped around and glared at the associate with pure venom. "Do you have eyes in the back of your head? How dare you treat a guest like that? Is this how you do your job? When a client walks in, you are supposed to offer them a beverage instantly! This is one of our top VIPs. If you ever show this kind of disrespect again, you can pack your bags and get the hell out of my store!"
The associate finally realized the catastrophic magnitude of her mistake and quickly poured two glasses of sparkling water, bringing them over.
"Ladies, I am so incredibly sorry. Please, have some water."
"I don't need the water," Theresa said, waving her off. "I was just looking at the display wall. I like those thirty bags over there. Wrap them all up for me."
The associate's jaw hit the floor.
"What is wrong with you? The client gave you an order, go get it done!" Mrs. Layton barked.
"Yes! Yes, right away!" The associate scrambled into action.
She had stumbled onto a mega-client. Buying thirty bags at once? It was the equivalent of a month's worth of sales in a single transaction.
She had almost driven away a goldmine because of her own blinding ignorance.
