Lilian turned her sharp and piercing gaze on the woman. "Who here is not innocent? Take a look around. Because of your selfish desires, Sebastian is lying here between life and death. Because of your so-called grudge, you have brought agony to countless people. Because of your narcissism, Mr. Greg had to endure such pain at his age. Tell me. Who in this room is not innocent? Is your daughter the only one who matters? Everyone here has suffered because of your hatred. You have no one to blame but yourself for what has happened to her."
Lilian stared at the disfigured woman before her. If it were not for the law, she would have torn Renee to pieces herself to settle the score.
Renee continued to slam her head against the floor, her voice thick with wretched sobs. "Yes! It is all my fault! I am selfish and I am cruel. I should never have chased a man who did not love me. I should never have hurt so many people just to get back at him, especially my own daughter. This is my own karma. I admit it all. Just save Jane. I will do anything. I will crawl to Derrick and Uriel and beg for their forgiveness if that is what it takes."
She scrambled over to Uriel and Derrick and wailed in despair. "I was wrong! It was all me. I am so sorry. Please, I am begging you. Talk to Lilian. Ask her to save my daughter. Please. I will take the blame for everything, just do not let Jane die. We grew up together. For the sake of those years, please help me. I can lose everything else but I can not lose her."
Uriel looked down at her with cold indifference. She felt like ripping the woman apart for hurting her only son. Yet seeing Renee so broken and covered in her own filth, she realized that every wretched person truly does bring about their own misery.
