She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 306

From everything he’d seen and pieced together, Gavin was sure of one thing: this wasn’t about money. But if she wasn’t after cash, what was it—she just didn’t like his face and decided to storm his ship for fun?

He couldn’t find an answer. He took a hard drag from his cigarette, exhaled a slow ring, and said, “The point isn’t why she’s doing it. The point is getting her to show herself on a ship this size. Unless you’re actually planning to let her pick us off one by one in the dark.”

The men traded blank looks. They were used to taking orders; asking them for ideas was like asking rocks to solve a puzzle.

Gavin raked a hand through his hair, irritated.

A thick-necked bruiser stepped in from the doorway and said, “Those kids won’t shut up, Mr. Quinn. We still harvesting tonight?”

Gavin froze mid-motion, then snapped his gaze up. “Kids?”

The bruiser flinched under that cold, murderous stare and rubbed his arm as if he’d gotten gooseflesh. “Yeah. Kids. Loud enough to split your skull.”

Something clicked in Gavin’s head. “Go grab a few. Bring them up to the main deck.”

“What for?”

Nobody understood what he was doing.

Gavin’s mouth curled into a thin, ugly smile. “Women have a soft spot for kids. I’m betting she can’t stand there and watch them get thrown overboard one by one.”

The order went out fast. Minutes later, several armed thugs stormed the children’s quarters. Ignoring the screams and flailing hands, they yanked three of the loudest, most desperate kids out into the corridor, dragging them like sacks.

In the corner, Aaron stood. “Wait.”

A thug turned. “What—wanna take their place?”

To everyone’s surprise, Aaron nodded. He pointed to the ugly, segmented scar across his abdomen—like something stitched by a butcher—and said evenly, “There’s not much left to take from me. Those kids are healthy. If you’re choosing, pick me. I’m worth less.”

The thug stared a moment, then tossed the child he’d been holding to the floor and grinned like a wolf. “Got guts. Fine. If you wanna play hero, I’ll let you.”
