She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 319

There were very few women who met Lucian and didn’t fall for him. Sapphire wasn’t one of the exceptions—but even if she had eight times the nerve, she wouldn’t dare fight Loyce over him. She’d never win against someone that lethal, and she couldn’t afford the consequences of betraying Loyce.

Back at Blossom Hospital, some of the pharmacists were confused. The Walsh family had gone after them in the past, so they couldn’t understand why Loyce would place a Walsh heir in charge.

Loyce only said, cool and simple, “Sapphire’s been trained. She won’t, and she doesn’t dare, act out. She understands exactly what happens if she turns on me. Treat her like a normal boss. That’s all.”

From the moment Loyce realized Gavin had been playing Sapphire, she’d already mapped the board—every move, every ending. Sapphire was a capable doctor, and a well-trained enemy could become a loyal piece.

Loyce’s judgment was rarely wrong. The pharmacists accepted it.

After the crisis finally ended, Loyce returned to the Lonsdale estate intending to sleep for a few days. But as she passed through the living room, Hank Lonsdale—just back from a business trip—called out to her.

Loyce stopped and turned, lowering her head slightly. “Hank. You’re back.”

“If I didn’t come back,” Hank said dryly, “I was afraid you’d go start a pirate career.”

He rose from the couch and walked up, studying her from head to toe. She wore a long-sleeved knit dress that made her look polished, elegant, and completely harmless. A crystal barrette pinned her hair, her makeup was light, and she looked like someone whose hands had never known anything harsher than shopping bags.

It was almost impossible to connect that image with the person who had stormed into his world, killed the old godfather’s son, and sniped her way through armed enemies—someone whispered about in certain circles as “SaintHealer.”

His sister looked too harmless.

Then he remembered what she’d actually done, and his gaze hardened again. He couldn’t afford to be fooled by a pretty face.
