A surge of warmth blossomed in Loyce's chest, though her expression remained composed. She nodded. "Okay."
One metal mine was nothing. She could give her oldest brother something infinitely better.
Satisfied, Hank stood back up and glared at a pale, seething Zeke Shapiro. "Old man, you've been shrewd your whole life, but you're getting pathetic in your old age. If you want to repay a debt, you're going to use Lucian's entire future to do it, and you expect my sister to swallow her pride to accommodate you? What gives you the right? Do they owe you?"
"And that 'good kid' you say just needs to learn? She's a pathological liar blinded by greed. Her mother ruined her from the start. If you refuse to teach her a lesson, there are plenty of people out there who will."
"Hank Lonsdale! You...!" Zeke was trembling with rage. He tried to fire back, but found himself entirely choked on his own words.
The sheer humiliation of being scolded like a dog by a younger generation made his vision swim with black spots.
"Enough!" Gordon finally commanded, his face grim. "Zeke, I know you value loyalty and promises. But stop throwing away the last shreds of your dignity for that worthless girl."
The conversation ended in complete disaster. After a lifetime of being revered as a decorated veteran, Zeke had essentially been kicked out of the Lonsdale estate. He was practically vibrating with anger.
Unbeknownst to him, every single move Zeke made was being closely monitored, every word relayed verbatim back to Lucian.
The man casually flicked a lighter open and closed, watching the flame dance and die. He glanced at Robert. "Grandpa hit a brick wall at the Lonsdales'. He's inevitably going to come to me to figure something out."
Robert, well aware of the absolute circus that had gone down at the hospital, felt his own distaste for Cyrilla growing. "I'll be honest, General. That Cyrilla girl is far too manipulative. If you really follow orders and marry her, your home will never know peace. It's a disaster waiting to happen."
Lucian gave him a sidelong glance. "I didn't realize you were an expert on women."
Robert chuckled sheepishly. "I know a little. Just a little."
"Go tell Grandpa to save himself the embarrassment," Lucian ordered. "Tell him I'll handle the storefronts for Cyrilla's classmates."
"Yes, sir."
