A look of sheer joy broke across Channing's face. Instead of returning to his seat, however, he walked over to Lucian and took a fresh glass of wine from another server.
"Lucian," he said, his tone dripping with absolute sincerity as he raised his glass. "I know my sudden presence might make things awkward, but we're family. I really hope the two of us can build a real relationship."
Lucian didn't say a word. He merely took a symbolic sip of the wine offered to him.
Knowing Lucian wouldn't cause a scene in such a public setting, Channing returned to his seat and continued.
"I haven't had the chance to see you since we got back, but I've heard that your health has been failing, and that even top doctors haven't been able to do much. I've been incredibly worried. Luckily, Luna knows of an absolute genius in the medical field—a holistic healer with unparalleled skills who has cured countless impossible cases. I spent a fortune to invite him here, and he's currently waiting in the parlor. After dinner, I was hoping he could take a look at you and see if there are any alternative treatments. It's just a small token of care from me, Mom, and Dad."
Baldwin chimed in eagerly. "Yes, Channing practically begged the master for half a month, and Luna helped immensely to secure his visit. This healer usually only treats royalty and extreme elites. He's practically a living legend."
Lucian looked at the father who felt like an absolute stranger to him. He raised his glass, downed the remaining liquor in one swallow, set the glass down, and said coldly, "I already have the greatest doctor in the world treating me. There is no need for you to trouble yourselves."
Luna immediately piped up in her broken English. "He is absolutely thousands of times better than any doctor you have here! He goes by the title 'SaintHealer.' Since you are such an important Admiral who has seen the world, surely you must have heard the name 'SaintHealer'?"
Lifting her chin arrogantly, Luna bragged, "Rumor has it he can snatch people back from the brink of death. Because he is so secretive, he only treats people based on his mood. I heard he hasn't even taken on three patients this entire year! For him to come to the Shapiro estate just to treat you is a massive honor for your family."
Loyce raised an eyebrow and let out a soft, highly audible laugh.
Her clear, amused laughter felt incredibly out of place at the serious dinner table, instantly drawing the stares of everyone around her.
"What exactly are you laughing at?" Luna demanded angrily. "Is it funny that the SaintHealer is going to give this Admiral a second chance at life?"
"It's just... pretty hilarious," Loyce replied, leaning back in her chair. Looking toward Lucian at the head of the table, she smirked. "Saving you is a family honor?"
A rare, incredibly soft expression finally graced Lucian's deep, cold features for the first time that night. "It's my personal honor."
"Ahem!" Gordon aggressively leaned back, physically blocking the line of sight between the two of them. He lowered his voice, threatening Lucian. "Stop flirting with my granddaughter right in front of my face."
