The personnel in the tent suddenly panicked as if they had lost their backbone, but quickly remembered Lucian's pre-issued orders, calming down and executing his pre-arranged plans methodically.
Lucian had anticipated the worst-case scenario and given clear instructions: if an accident occurred during the rescue, news must be suppressed for a week. If they still couldn't escape after a week, it meant the mission failed, and he and his team had no chance of survival. The news could then be released to the public.
Loyce learned of Lucian's orders from these people. He truly considered everything. To not implicate her, he even had them specifically note it as dying in the line of duty.
Loyce's heart felt heavy, suffocating, as if a giant hand was tightly squeezing it, making it hard to breathe.
Three full days passed. There was no response from the satellite signal. To aid the rescue, she hadn't slept a wink for three days, trying to restore the connection and plan a rescue route.
But these two days weren't an open window. The mountain weather changed too fast. The blizzard caused atmospheric energy accumulation, and as soon as the snow stopped, it seamlessly switched to a torrential downpour.
This extreme weather overlap was rare, but very common in this unpopulated mining region.
All the scholars gathered with Loyce to discuss rescue routes, but no one could offer a viable plan.
"The weather is too extreme. Putting aside the fact that not everyone has the physical prowess of the elite soldiers the Admiral brought, the rain after the snow, along with avalanches and mudslides that could erupt at any moment inside the mountains... going in is a death wish. The environment is just too terrible."
Another scholar sighed, "Right now, we can only hope for a miracle."
"It's been three days. I'm really uneasy. The longer this drags on, the lower the chances of survival."
"What else can we do? The only thing we can do now is wait, and send another team to search the nearby entrances to see if they can intercept Admiral Shapiro."
Loyce racked her brain, but the scholars spoke the truth. She couldn't find even the slightest window to enter. She could only linger on the outskirts, waiting for a miracle.
Over the three days, everyone's morale slowly sank.
Soldiers paced around the campsite. At night, murmurs reached Loyce's ears.
Everyone thought Lucian risking his life to save Forrest wasn't worth it.
With so many dissenting voices, the news of Lucian missing in the mountains quietly leaked, reaching the Shapiro family in Metropia.
Zeke Shapiro couldn't sit still upon hearing the news. His first reaction was fury, followed by panic. He scrambled a helicopter at top speed, rushing to the Cryovoltic Peaks campsite.
Baldwin and Joanna rushed over upon hearing the news, insisting on going along.
