She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 459

Loyce replied bluntly: "It's my decision."

Channing pressed his lips together, not forcing the issue, but asked before leaving, "Why does SaintHealer seem so hostile towards me? I've already dealt with the person who impersonated you that day, and Luna genuinely didn't do it on purpose. I'm formally apologizing to you here on behalf of her and my family."

The man bowed to her. "Please be the bigger person and forgive us. And please tell my brother to let go of past grudges. My parents sincerely want to make up for his missing childhood."

Loyce suddenly smiled. She took a step forward, standing right in front of him, and lowered her voice. "Sincerely? If they were sincere, they wouldn't have ignored him for thirty years. Were you so destitute abroad that you couldn't even afford a plane ticket back?"

The smile on Channing's face almost slipped. "There were hidden circumstances. Mother's health has always been poor."

Loyce's eyes remained flat. "Save the ghost stories. Do you think everyone except you is an idiot?"

Channing continued playing dumb. It wasn't until he watched Loyce walk away that his eyes slowly turned dark.

Joanna saw the untouched food returned and completely lost it, complaining in dissatisfaction, "Who does she think she is? So what if she's a great doctor?"

She turned to Baldwin to complain, "Lucian too. I am his mother. How can he let an outsider dictate things to his own mother?"

Baldwin scoffed, "Now you say you're his mother? Have you ever raised him? Loved him?"

The words choked Joanna, her eyes instantly turning red.

"Don't forget what our real purpose for coming back is," Baldwin said. "We don't have a choice. You can compensate Lucian now, try to love him, and use family affection to persuade him to give up the presidency and his conservative faction."

Joanna sighed, eyes red. "I know."

That night, the camp gradually fell silent, leaving only the footsteps of patrolling soldiers and the unending rain.

The lights in Loyce's tent had long been out.

She silently changed into a tactical suit designed for movement, threw a waterproof jacket on top, and carefully packed a compact detector, sampling tools, a first-aid kit, and the set of silver needles she never went without.

She took one last look toward the medical tent where Forrest was located, then melted into the shadows of the night. Evading the patrols, relying on the route and topographical maps she memorized in the command tent, she slipped out of the camp unnoticed, heading straight toward the deadly mineral vein that consumed lives.

It wasn't an open window to enter the vein yet. The weather remained extremely harsh.

The beam of Loyce's flashlight barely sliced through the pitch-black, muddy mountain path, illuminating the jagged, terrifying outline of the mountain ahead.

She pulled her collar up and stepped into the storm without hesitation. Her figure was quickly swallowed by the heavy night rain. Only the howling wind was left, echoing through the valley like a premonition of danger.

A night passed.
