He looked like a statue, completely petrified in place.
It took a long time for Lucian to finally force a sentence past his lips. "What did you just do?"
Loyce paused. She simply placed her hands flat against his rock-hard thighs, tilted her chin up, and leaned in again, lightly biting down on his soft, cool lower lip.
"Didn't you want a kiss?" Her breath mingled flawlessly with his. "No?"
However, before she could pull back again to read the emotion in his eyes, her entire world suddenly flipped upside down.
A massive hand shot out and clamped onto the back of her neck with an inescapable, iron grip. The man, who had just been lounging against the headboard, erupted with explosive strength. With one arm, he effortlessly hauled her completely out of the wheelchair and dragged her hard against his chest!
"Mmph!" Loyce's faint gasp was entirely swallowed.
Lucian's kiss was like a long-dormant volcano violently erupting. It carried a nearly savage, predatory intensity that entirely overwhelmed her senses.
Loyce had not expected this man to kiss like a madman. She possessed absolutely no strength to resist him.
Her mind went completely blank, reduced to passively enduring a kiss so fierce it stole the very oxygen from her lungs.
Her breath was plundered, her body went entirely soft, and her legs felt numb. Her entire universe was reduced to his scorching heat and unyielding dominance.
The sudden commotion inside was naturally picked up by Robert's sharp ears outside. The aide broke into a massive grin. On one hand, he was thrilled these two were finally making some real progress. On the other hand, he was deeply impressed by his General. Even with his leg shredded to pieces, the man still had the energy to be so... aggressive. If it were Robert, romance would be the last thing on his mind.
An eternity seemed to pass before both of their lungs were burning for air. Lucian finally, reluctantly, released her lips, though he kept his forehead firmly pressed against hers. The tips of their noses touched, their ragged, scorching breaths mingling together.
Lucian acutely caught the subtle shift in her expression. Just as she tried to pull away, he locked her back into his embrace, his voice dropping into a low, coaxing murmur. "My first was in the hospital. I stole a kiss from you."
Loyce stared at him, bewildered. She had absolutely no memory of that.
Lucian brushed a few stray strands of hair behind her ear. His thumb traced her damp bottom lip, his gaze plunging into hers. "When you went up against that bear to save your student... I made the wrong call. I wanted to stay away from you so I wouldn't bring you trouble, so I gave myself a goodbye kiss."
Loyce remembered she had been on a morphine pump back then, drifting in and out of consciousness.
"Oh, so you took advantage of me," she stated.
"Heh."
