"She is not unauthorized personnel," Forrest stated coldly, his tone dripping with unquestionable protectiveness. "She is my sister."
"Ms. Lonsdale?"
These were the core pillars of the Lonsdale Group; naturally, they knew about the recently recovered heiress. She had even represented the family at the Futura-Silicon bidding event previously.
Though they hadn't met her officially, everyone had heard the society gossip surrounding Loyce.
And the reviews were mixed.
Lionel Yates, the R&D Director, spoke up with a poor attitude. "Oh, so it's Ms. Lonsdale. However, even if you are Mr. Lonsdale's sister, a meeting of this magnitude is hardly the place for you to interject, is it? The semiconductor industry isn't one of your little play-pretend games at Bloomberry."
It seemed the Director was also fully briefed on the supposedly brainless antics she was pulling at her fashion company.
Forrest's voice instantly dropped to a lethal register. "Lionel, watch your tone when speaking to my sister."
The Director fell silent for a moment before muttering an apology. "My apologies. I've just been entirely overwhelmed lately. My emotions got the better of me. I wasn't deliberately targeting Ms. Lonsdale."
Loyce's gaze swept over the screen, taking in every anxious, annoyed, and condescending face. When she spoke again, her voice remained perfectly level. "I only chimed in to confirm something. This 'specialty ore' you're all talking about—is it a specific silicon-based mineral that grows alongside a highly lethal toxin and carries trace amounts of unique radioactive elements?"
The entire video conference went dead silent.
Then, someone spoke up. "Yes, exactly. That is exactly what we were just talking about. The very thing Mr. Lonsdale risked his life trying to find."
"Unfortunately, I couldn't bring it back," Forrest sighed.
Loyce blinked, realization dawning on her. "Hold on a second, Forrest. I need to go grab a backpack."
She had been so preoccupied with curing him that she completely forgot to hand over the goods.
Grabbing her crutches, she hobbled down to the storage room where her gear had been dumped, located the tactical backpack she'd taken into the mine, and returned to Forrest's bedroom.
By the time she returned, the executives on screen were losing their patience. They had a mountain of fires to put out and were actively petitioning Forrest to end the call.
"I don't want to waste any more time. My R&D lab needs me."
"Mr. Lonsdale, I need to go monitor the stock market. We absolutely cannot let this trigger a total collapse."
Lionel Yates, the R&D Director who had openly mocked Loyce minutes prior, was now beet red, stammering in sheer hysteria. "Ms. Lonsdale! You must tell me! Where... where did you find this ore?! How much of it is there?!"
Loyce looked at the erupting board of directors. She watched their expressions swing violently from utter despair to manic ecstasy, from condescension to borderline worship.
Her expression didn't change in the slightest. She just replied dryly, "I just grabbed it casually while I was in the Cryovoltic mines."
Casually? The Cryovoltic mines?!
The girl said it so effortlessly, but every single man in that call knew exactly what a hellscape the depths of the Cryovoltic Peaks range were.
Forrest had taken a fully armed elite squad, suffered catastrophic losses, and nearly died. Yet this girl—the same "airhead" they assumed was just playing dress-up at Bloomberry and needed constant protection—had not only charged into that deathtrap alone to save her brother, but had "casually" accomplished the core mission that their entire multi-billion dollar operation had failed to achieve!
Everyone was stunned stupid. No one could fathom how the heiress from the rumors was actually this terrifyingly competent.
Sitting beside her, Forrest's eyes were wide with shock, quickly melting into absolute, awe-struck admiration for his sister.
His voice trembled with a mixture of immense pride and lingering heartache. "You mean to tell me... when you went back into that deathtrap alone to get the poison sample to cure me, you just... casually picked this up along the way?"
