She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 502

"Do you have a way out of here?" Una asked anxiously. "There's no cell service on the mountain, so we can't call for help. We've made a massive scene. As soon as the storm clears tomorrow, the local officials will clear the roadblocks and come up here. We'll be outnumbered. None of us will make it out alive."

"My phone has a satellite tracker," Lucian said calmly. "I've already contacted my team. Helicopters will be here at first light. I'll leave a detachment behind to excavate the Maiden's Copse."

Una let out a shaky breath of relief, finally realizing the unassuming "bodyguard" standing before her was anything but ordinary.

"No, don't dig it up yet," Loyce interjected. "The timing isn't right. I want to wait until the audience is at its largest before I deliver the final blow to Alicia."

Between the lightning, the lack of electricity, and the shut-off water supply, it had been a miserable night. Lucian had wanted to draw Loyce a hot bath to keep her from catching a cold, but under the circumstances, there wasn't much he could do.

He turned to Una. "Do you have any warm water? She can't stay in these wet clothes, or she'll get sick."

Una nodded eagerly. "Yes, I do."

She quickly gathered a clean set of clothes for Loyce, casting an envious glance her way. "Your boyfriend treats you so well. I have some hot water left in the kettle. You can both use it to clean up. You can change into my clothes, and we can start a small fire to dry your hair."

After a quick wash, Loyce changed into Una's oversized hoodie and jeans. She sat down in front of the small brazier, her wet hair cascading down her back. Lucian took a dry towel from Una with a soft murmur of thanks. He stood behind Loyce and began to dry her hair, his movements practiced, gentle, and utterly devoted.

Una gave them some space. After expertly treating the wounds on her own face and arms with a first-aid kit, she picked up a heavy wooden rolling pin and headed outside. "I have some business to take care of. You two rest."

Soon, the sound of Una's furious, violent retaliation echoed from the porch. For over a year, she had been beaten daily by that despicable old crone and repeatedly violated by the woman's son. She had been treated like a pack mule, worked to the bone, and beaten until her body was a canvas of bruises for the slightest perceived mistake.

She had once been a cherished daughter, loved and protected by her parents, only to have her future brutally ripped away by these monsters.

The hatred inside her was a living, breathing thing.

Now, the very rolling pin that had been used to beat her was in her own hands. Unable to hold back a year's worth of agony, Una brought it down on the old woman again and again, screaming, "You like hitting me?! You like it?! Take this, you old witch!"

The old woman shrieked and wailed until the sheer force of the blows knocked her unconscious.
