That evening, Sybil dressed carefully before heading to the Langley estate.
As one of the most prominent jewelry families, the Langleys' residence was naturally opulent. Though located in the suburbs of Metropia, the estate commanded the better half of an entire hillside.
Sybil used to socialize with Sylvie occasionally, but ever since her public scandal, the Langley heiress had kept her at a distance—until this fashion collaboration provided a turning point.
It wasn't just Élégance aiming for international recognition; the Langley Group desperately wanted to expand its jewelry market overseas.
However, since Nexus Design was fundamentally a fashion competition, the Langleys had no choice but to partner with an apparel brand to get their foot in the door.
Sybil gathered her skirt and stepped out of her car. She hadn't taken two steps before another vehicle pulled up right behind hers.
Turning around, she saw Thane Crown hopping out. A dopey, eager smile spread across his face as he waved. "Sybil!"
Sybil looked mildly surprised. "What are you doing here?"
Thane beamed. "Linden invited me over for dinner. You too?"
Sybil nodded, offering a polite smile. "What a coincidence."
As Thane walked up to her, she suddenly realized how much he had grown. "You've gotten a lot taller."
"Must be the water abroad," Thane said, walking beside her and casually chatting about his life overseas.
Sybil asked, "No girlfriend yet?"
"Of course not. My heart's already taken." Thane looked at her, his tone dropping into total sincerity. "I've liked her since we were kids. Liked her for years. No other woman even comes close."
Sybil's eyes flickered. She knew perfectly well he was talking about her, but in her eyes, his family background equated to being glorified restaurant cooks. They couldn't hold a candle to a legacy jewelry empire.
Seeing the boy's wooden expression, Sybil dismissed her suspicions. Someone that plain and dirty couldn't possibly be the elusive Langley heir. She was overthinking things.
Sylvie Langley greeted them warmly. She even turned to Thane and said, "Linden told me you were coming, so I had the kitchen make your favorite ribs. Come on in."
The Langley family was incredibly hospitable to Thane. During the conversation, Sybil noticed their genuine warmth toward him—likely due to his parents' connections. She didn't dwell on it, internally focusing on the anticipation of finally meeting Linden Langley, the heir who had never once made a public appearance in Metropia high society.
He had been kept hidden his entire life. To this day, no one outside the family knew what he looked like.
However, once everyone was seated in the dining room, the seat of honor remained conspicuously empty.
After waiting for some time, Sybil couldn't help but ask, "Is Mr. Langley not joining us for dinner?"
"He changed his mind at the last minute. He does that sometimes." Sylvie offered an apologetic smile, though she shot a knowing glance at Thane, fully aware of why her brother had opted out.
