She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 550

His tone was absolute.

When they had first brought the survivor back, the military surgeons had told Lucian the man was practically dead. The only person in the world capable of pulling off a miracle like this was standing right beside him.

The accompanying surgeon beamed. "We owe it all to Ms. Lonsdale. She guided us through a brutal ten-hour surgery. She quite literally dragged him back from the grave."

Lucian's eyes met the gaze of the newly awakened fisherman. He squeezed Loyce's hand tightly. "You've been working hard."

Loyce shook her head slightly. "It wasn't too bad."

The moment the fisherman saw Lucian, his expression contorted in pure fury. The painkillers hadn't totally wiped him out, and he managed a hoarse, guttural scream, "Why did you let them sink us?! Why?! We saw your ships! You were right there!"

His eyes bulged with rage, sending the heart monitors into a frantic frenzy. The medical team quickly wheeled him away, out of Lucian's sight.

Loyce pulled Lucian into the infirmary. She turned her back to him to quickly mix several vials of medication. Walking back over, she rolled up his wet sleeve, sterilized the skin, and injected him. "We know who orchestrated this, but without concrete proof, you're going to have to weather this storm of public outrage."

"I know." Lucian watched the clear liquid enter his bloodstream, instantly feeling the fiery agony in his chest subside. "The signal jamming technology has to be out there somewhere. I left a salvage team behind to see if they can drag up anything useful."

Loyce removed the needle and pressed a cotton swab to his arm. "Hold this for two minutes. This dose will suppress the symptoms until you can get a full injection of Nexo-7. I'll leverage my network to dig up the evidence."

Lucian's brow finally relaxed. Seeing the genuine worry in her eyes, a profound warmth spread through his chest.

He gently pulled her closer. While he sat on the exam table and she stood before him, he wrapped his arms tightly around her waist and rested his head against her stomach, his voice softening. "I never wanted you to carry my burdens. I just want you to be happy."

He let out a tired breath. "But it seems I'm failing at that."

Loyce blinked. She gently took his face in her hands, tilted his head up, and pressed a soft kiss to his lips.

"We're partners. We support each other, don't we?"

Lucian's eyes widened in surprise before a slow, genuine smile spread across his face.
