She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 557

Knowing he must have heavily armed operatives in the shadows, Loyce smiled. "I had a bit to drink anyway. I'll just ride with you."

She climbed into the passenger seat.

Unsurprisingly, Robert was behind the wheel. He turned around, flashing an incredibly guilty, apologetic smile. "Good evening."

He was clearly sweating bullets for having immediately snitched on her location to his boss.

Loyce tossed a Frost Peppermint candy into his lap. "Keep your eyes on the road."

Knowing she wasn't mad, Robert grinned and navigated the SUV down the winding mountain path.

Sitting beside her, Lucian's tone darkened. "Thane sent them. Are we just going to let that slide?"

"He hired them to rough me up to impress Sybil," Loyce explained calmly. "But the 'assault' upgrade was Sybil's brilliant last-minute addition."

At the mention of the word 'assault', the temperature in the car plummeted. Lucian's grip on her hand tightened, his eyes turning glacial. "You can't show mercy to enemies like that, Loyce."

"I'm well aware," she replied, meeting his gaze. "But Thane's father, Tucker, is a good man, and he respects you. Thane is his only son. For his sake, and yours, I'll steer the boy back onto the right path."

Knowing she always operated several steps ahead, Lucian simply nodded. "Whatever you need, I'll back your play."

Her lips curved upward. "Let's just play a little game."

The SUV eventually pulled up to a highly discreet, private psychological clinic.

Inside, Loyce was immediately greeted by Zelie. Though her eyes still held a hazy, vacant look, the moment she spotted Loyce, they lit up with astonishing clarity. "Sweetheart!"

Zelie threw her arms around the younger girl, hugging her with bone-crushing force. Loyce could feel the woman trembling violently.

Zelie's psychological dependence on her was incredibly profound.

Gently patting the older woman's back, Loyce's usually cool voice softened into something incredibly tender. "It's okay. I'm here now."

Finding her anchor, Zelie gripped the hem of Loyce's jacket, hiding behind her like a frightened child. She glared suspiciously at everyone else in the room—especially the elegantly dressed man adjusting his gold-rimmed glasses.
