Loyce's eyes flickered, unable to hide the wave of emotion that washed over her.
She thought of Corinne Pierce and the secret involving her grandmother. That might be the key to helping him.
I will help you.
She made a silent promise to him in her heart.
...
Before the yacht docked, another major event occurred.
When the ship approached the shore and cell service returned, Thane Crown called his parents about his proposal to Sybil Seabrook, declaring he would marry her no matter the cost.
Tucker and Mrs. Crown simply replied, "Happy wedding. As for a gift or any assets, don't expect anything, because we're starting over with a new account."
Even now, Thane hadn't grasped the severity of the situation. After hanging up, he complained to a friend, "They're just threatening me. They can't actually disown me. Sybil and I will just go get our marriage license first. My parents will eventually compromise when they see how great she is."
His friend looked at him like he was an idiot. "Didn't you check the news when we got a signal this morning?"
"What news?" Thane asked.
Dr. Karl, who was walking past, chuckled. "The news that your parents really don't want you anymore, of course."
"Karl! What kind of sarcastic garbage are you spouting?!" Thane hated this foreigner who was trying to steal his girl more than anyone. "You're just jealous that Sybil still loves me!"
Karl shrugged. "Not really. No jealousy here."
After he walked away, the friend grabbed Thane's arm and shoved his phone in his face. "Karl wasn't mocking you. It's true! See for yourself! Your parents really disowned you!"
Thane gripped the phone. When he read the headlines, his usual arrogance finally gave way to a trace of fear and sheer disbelief.
"That's impossible!"
