She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 624

Edgar chuckled. "So her showing up today was just her pulling your strings from the shadows to fight me for the land, wasn't it?"

Byron looked utterly confused. "What are you talking about? Quiana is in prison. How could she possibly be pulling my strings?"

Edgar sneered internally. *You're a good actor.* "I wasn't talking about her."

Byron maintained his bewildered expression before realization seemingly dawned on him. "Wait, do you mean Loyce? She hasn't been part of our family for a long time, let alone ordering me around."

His words carried clearly to the Macrostar executives standing nearby. They exchanged puzzled glances. It sounded like Loyce hadn't funded the Sampsons at all.

Edgar didn't buy a word of it and decided to ask directly. "Is that so? Because I happened to see you all having dinner together at Crown Dining. You seemed quite close. Are you telling me she didn't inject capital into your firm?"

Byron's face darkened, and he feigned a flash of anger. "Ugh, don't even bring it up. I practically begged her for help with these parcels. She's a billionaire heiress now, right? Rolling in cash? I figured she could easily float us a loan. And you know what she did?"

He let out a bitter scoff. "She rejected us. Gave us some lecture about the land being a bad investment, too risky. She just didn't want to fund us and made up an excuse so she wouldn't have to lend us a dime."

His sheer frustration looked too genuine to be a lie, leaving Edgar momentarily baffled. "Then who is backing you?"

"That's strictly internal company business. Why are you interrogating me like this?"

Edgar fell silent. Meanwhile, the board members behind him whispered to each other, "It looks like Ms. Lonsdale was telling the truth. She really was trying to protect Macrostar. If we run into trouble, I'm sure she'll step in to save us."

Edgar spun around, cutting them off with a sharp edge to his voice. "I've already told you, this was the right call. As long as we can get those high-rises built, the stock will soar, and there won't be any problems!"

Since he held the majority of the power and shares, the others backed down, unwilling to escalate the tension.
