Chapter 328 Cornered by Wilbur
“You pinned this whole mess on Mr. Cross, claiming my child is his–do you have any idea how unfair that is to me?” Wilbur stared intently into her beautiful but now hollow eyes.
Ashley froze. “Do you even know what you’re saying?”
“I know exactly what I’m saying. I wasn’t drunk that night pretended to be. Would you like to see the proof?” Wilbur pulled his phone from his jacket pocket.
“Ah!” Ashley erupted, pounding her fists against his chest in a frenzy.
She was overcome with the raw shame of exposure, of having her most guarded secret violently uncovered.
She couldn’t even clearly remember how she’d ended up in bed with Wilbur that night. They’d supposedly settled everything at the café that day–agreed to part ways for good. But later, when she went to take the morning–after pill, she realized her period had started, so she didn’t take it. The next month, she discovered she was pregnant.
This hadn’t been part of the plan she’d discussed with Collin… but a part of her had wanted it.
It was just that Damian had changed.
Over these past few days, she’d sensed with chilling clarity that Damian already knew where she was. He hadn’t made a move yet, but that very inaction was terrorizing her.
She kept hearing phantom knocks on her door in the dead of night. Every time she ventured out, she felt eyes on her. Even walking down the street, strangers seemed to jostle or stare just a little too long.
Her nerves were fraying, close to snapping.
Living under this constant, invisible pressure was worse than being dragged back and forced to face the consequences.
Night after sleepless night had left her a hollow shell, neither fully present nor completely broken.
She finally stopped struggling.
In the end, Wilbur didn’t unlock his phone. Instead, he pulled her into a rough, tight embrace.
“Stop this, Ashley. You know I came back from overseas for you. I took the job at Mr. Cross‘ company for you, too. I never imagined you’d disappear right after I started. I’ve loved you for a long time, Ashley.”
“Just leave.”
“You found her?”
Brian was sprawled on the sofa in Cypher Group CEO’s office, idly scrolling on his phone. Damian was moving around in the open concept kitchen area.
He brought over a bowl of fragrant seafood bisque and set it in front of Brian.
“Try it,” Damian said.

Brian sat up as if jolted back to life “What’s the tasting fee?”
“What tasting fee?”
“Everyone from the executive assistants who sampled your culinary experiments got two grand Shouldn’t I get double? if I die from food poisoning, my family will at least get a decent payout”
“Tch. Is that all you think about?” Damian tossed a spoon into the bowl and sat down across from him.
Brian didn’t hesitate. He picked up the spoon and started eating.
“You still haven’t answered me. You tracked her down, didn’t you?”
Damian gave a noncommittal “Hmm,” then crossed his legs, leaned back into the sofa cushions, and lit a cigarette.
Brian watched him.
He seemed to be smoking more lately.
“She wants to play games? Fine, we’ll play properly,” Damian said, a cold, subtle curve forming at the corner of his mouth.
Grabbing her outright would only make her burrow deeper.
Besides, they were law–abiding people–they didn’t resort to outright kidnapping. If she wanted a psychological war, they’d wage one until she was terrified, until she came crawling back begging for it to stop!
“How’s Isabelle holding up?” Brian asked between spoonfuls.
Damian hadn’t noticed Brian had already finished the entire bowl.
“Aside from that guy hanging around her every day, she’s managing,” Damian replied, frowning slightly at the empty dish. “Was it good?”
“Not bad,” Brian said.
“Twenty bucks per bowl,” Damian stated flatly.
Brian shot him a withering look.

Isabelle seemed to be in better spirits when she woke. She drank a full bowl of the rich seafood bisque.
For several days in a row, Isabelle enjoyed three meals a day, all prepared by Damian and discreetly delivered.
Her recovery progressed smoothly, with no further complications.
Three days later, she was discharged from the hospital
“Should I stay with you for a few days?”
Caroline looked at isabelle, who was now lounging leisurely on the living room sofa eating grapes. She seemed perfectly fine, as if the recent scare had never happened
