Chapter 354 An Interrupted Meating
Chapter 354 An Interrupted Meeting
“Can I bum a cigarette?” Damian asked, reaching a hand toward Brian.
Brian chuckled. “Since when do I carry any?”
He’d never been a smoker.
“Then what’s this…” Damian’s eyes flicked to the faint rectangular outline in Brian’s suit pants pocket.
Brian brushed his hand away and stood up to leave.
Damian smiled, seeming to understand.
The next day, Isabelle didn’t get out of bed until past ten.
They’d stayed up far too late the night before; there was no chance of an early start.
When she finally stirred, the space beside her was cool.
Damian had held her in one position all night, his arms locked around her until her limbs felt heavy and languid.

Brian and Diana hadn’t stayed over. The estate was now so quiet she could only hear the distant calls of birds and the hum of cicadas outside.
Everything was peaceful. Looking down from the balcony, the gardens seemed to cover nearly two–thirds of the property, lush and sprawling like a private, wild oasis.
After washing up, she left the bedroom. She didn’t see Damian in the living areas or on the ground floor.
“Mrs. Cross, Mr. Cross is in the second–floor study. He mentioned that if you were looking for him, you should have some breakfast first,” a member of the household staff said with a kind smile.
“Okay.”
She felt a flicker of self–consciousness, as if her unspoken thoughts had been gently noticed.
She ate a light breakfast in the dining room, then made her way up to the study to find Damian.
The study was carpeted. Isabelle slipped into a pair of soft house shoes before entering.

Her steps were already quiet, but Damian, seated at the large oak desk, noticed her immediately. He gestured for her to come
closer.
“Come here.”
Hearing his voice, Isabelle assumed he was just working at his computer. She walked over and, without a second thought, settled onto his lap, looping her arms around his neck. “Honey…”
Damian swallowed, one hand coming to rest on the small of her back, the other moving calmly to the mouse to turn off the camera and mute the microphone.
“What did you just call me?” Damian tilted his head to look at the woman now nestled against him, his voice low

That single word sent a lush of warnath to the tips of his ears and tightened his throat. It was completely disarming.

On the other end of the now–darkened video call, the room had fallen into a stunned silence, no one daring to make a sound. In those few seconds, they felt they’d witnessed something profoundly private.
There were old rumors online that Damian’s wife was some domineering, unrefined woman. Then she’d swept into the corporate offices one day, even spent an entire afternoon napping in the CEO’s private suite. Colleagues who saw her leave later whispered they could still make out faint marks along her collarbone–marks the CEO had clearly left.
The rumors, evidently, were nonsense.
And just now, the moment Isabelle had settled onto Damian’s lap, her silhouette.. that wasn’t a figure just anyone possessed.
That waist…
Those curves…
The CEO was clearly living well!
This was no “plain Jane“-this was a vision.
And that breathy “honey“… It had sent a collective shiver through the virtual room.
Isabelle shifted slightly, pressing herself even closer against him.
“Honey.” Thinking he hadn’t heard, Isabelle said it again, nuzzling her face into the curve of his neck.
Damian’s throat moved. He brushed a kiss against her earlobe and answered softly, his voice a low rumble. “I’m right here.”
Isabelle had been unusually affectionate lately. Before, she’d often held back from intimacy outside their bedroom, blushing too easily.
Today, she was being remarkably bold.
“What’s on your mind?” Damian stroked her hair, his other hand slipping beneath the hem of her soft shirt to rest against the warm skin of her back.
“I missed you,” she murmured.
Not seeing him first thing in the morning had left her with a vague, hollow feeling.
In this still–unfamiliar environment, her sense of security felt particularly fragile.
Damian’s smile was tender. The hand under her shirt gave her back a gentle, reassuring stroke.
“Mr. Cross, shall we continue?”

Someone on the call, seeing a black screen and enduring nearly ten minutes of silence, ventured a cautious question.
Isabelle froze, too startled to move.
