Chapter 379 Threads of Fate
She kept going through the photos and, to her surprise, discovered there really were more pictures of her.

Among them was a shot from a fight she’d been in, alongside another photo of someone in a… rather flamboyant stage costume.
Isabelle frowned.
Had he been involved in that incident too?
It dawned on her belatedly that this man seemed to have left traces of his presence in her life long age, without her ever noticing.
The photo was strikingly clear.
It was from the final costume–themed social event organized by the university that semester, taken by the faculty photographer.
Her blonde hair, which already made her stand out on a normal day, shone freely and boldly under the stage lights.
She used to be cautious and reserved, but during events like that, she felt a surge of confidence.
Still, some people recognized her, whispering and pointing. Then, somehow, a scuffle broke out–no one was sure who threw the first punch.
Many rushed over to break it up. In the heat of the moment, with everyone’s judgment clouded, even those trying to pull people apart got caught in the tussle.
It was all because of Damian’s earlier words, “Don’t just stand there and take it–learn to push back.” That day, she fought harder than ever before. She had never felt more exhilarated.
She ended up sending someone to the campus clinic.
And it wasn’t just her opponent–another guy who tried to intervene ended up there, too.
That guy was wearing some outlandish heroic costume, practically radiating “I shall restore order to this chaos.” The memory was still vivid.
But even then, she hadn’t gotten a clear look at his face.
Now Isabelle knew.
She facepalmed, realizing she had accidentally sent Damian to the clinic as well.
Why had he never mentioned it?
Damian had been trying to break up the fight when she accidentally elbowed him in the nose, causing heavy bleeding. He was rushed to the clinic along with the other student.
Who would’ve thought they shared this kind of history?
After that semester, Isabelle transferred back to her home university and never crossed paths with Damian aga
She checked her phone, but there were no new messages from him.

As night deepened, her longing for him grew heavier.
Staring at her phone, she picked listlessly at the dinner in front of her, her appetite completely gone.
“Are you asleep?” Isabelle typed.
“I miss you.”
“Can I see you?”
“The baby misses you, too.”
Damian’s chat window remained blank.
Meanwhile, he was lying drowsily in a hospital bed, hooked up to an IV, waiting for surgery the next morning.

“And where do you think you’re going?”
Lucas was sitting in the darkened living room when he spotted Lynn trying to sneak toward the front door
The lights were off, and Lucas had been quietly lost in thought on the sofa. His sudden voice made Lynn jump.
“I…” Lynn was wearing loose shorts, with fresh bandages wrapped around both knees. She moved cautiously; she’d clearly need another week or two to heal fully.
Lucas watched her with quiet amusement. “Do you want me to give you a hard time? Coming downstairs to look for me?”
In the moonlight filtering through the window, Lynn could see the faint, knowing curl at the corner of Lucas‘ lips. She felt a mix of irritation and embarrassment.
“Lucas, Damian is my patient. I’m the lead surgeon for his procedure–he’s your friend. I need to go back. I have to be there for your friend.”
“I’ve already spoken with your father. Another surgeon is covering. You’re staying here to rest.”
So Lucas had been waiting here all along, just to intercept her midnight escape attempt.
Lucas smirked. This woman had been all compliance during dinner, even sweetly urging him to go shower and get some sleep, rier words had been smooth as honey, whispered in his ear more than once, “You’ve had a long day, thank you for putting up with me…”
Turned out it was all a ploy. Luckily, Lucas hadn’t bought it. After his shower, he’d planted himself right here—and just as expected. less than ten minutes later, Lynn appeared.
Perfect timing to catch her in the act.
Lynn took a steadying breath.
“Go back to your room,” Lucas said, his tone leaving no room for argument.
Summoning the last of her stubbornness, Lynn replied, “I want to go home

Lucas flicked on a lamp and noticed she was only holding the phone he’d lent her earlier–nothing else.
“Fine.”
Lucas walked toward the door, grabbing his car keys from the console. “Let’s go.”
