Chapter 387 Growing Closeness
Damian set his phone down and looked at him. “She’s just not that into you.”
Lucas felt the sting of the blunt words, but he had to admit they were true–Lyrin really wasn’t interested.

He was all rough edges and direct talk, and a strong, self-reliant woman like Lynn would naturally find his lack of polish off-putting.
Back then, she’d made an effort to get closer, testing the waters, but Lucas never gave her the time of day.
Now, he was filled with regret. He picked up his phone and stared blankly at the empty raessage thread with Lynn.
When he’d brought her lunch at nooh, she was no longer in the sleek slip dress from the morning. Instead, she had changed into a plain, oversized set of comfy sweats and a hoodie, probably ordered quick from delivery app.

Lynn was guarding herself against him as if he were some kind of predator.
He frowned, then tapped out a message to Lynn. “What are you doing for dinner tonight?”
“Thanks, but I’m meeting friends out tonight, so don’t worry about it,” Lynn replied almost instantly.
So it wasn’t that she was busy-she just didn’t want anything to do with him.
Lucas leaned an elbow on the sofa arm and rested his forehead in his hand. “Okay,” he typed back.
Bruce smiled and handed his own phone to Isabelle to take a look.
Isabelle grinned immediately and positioned herself by the stove, motioning for Bruce to take a few candid shots.
Gentle steam rose around her, softening her features with a warm, hazy glow.
The late afternoon light caught strands of her hair, scattering tiny bright specks across the surface of the simmering broth. She brushed a wisp of hair from her forehead, her focused expression turning the simple kitchen scene into something quietly
beautiful.
Bruce’s photography skills weren’t half bad. He snapped several shots in a row and sent them all to Damian.
Damian fought back drowsiness and tapped open the photos.
His heart felt restless.
Back home, the woman he loved was standing in his kitchen, wearing an apron and cooking for him.
The thought alone felt like a gift.
He examined each photo carefully, unable to look away.
“Dinner will be delivered in about half an hour,” Bruce messaged.
“Don’t let her catch on,” Damian replied.
“Don’t worry. Mrs. Cross went upstairs to rest.”

hearby, next to the pot of cooling brofi,, watching intently as Bruce toxted Damian.
“Ask how he’s feeling,” Isabelle said..
Bruce wasn’t sure how to slip that in naturally, so he simply handed her the phone.
“You ask.”
Isabelle didn’t hesitate. She took the phone and started typing to Damian herself.
“Bruce is being unusually chatty today,” Lucas remarked from the sofa.
“He got tipped. Probably feels obligated to offer some comforting small talk,” Damian replied, still absorbed in the photos, completely unsuspecting.
He was wrong, though. Bruce only did exactly what he was paid to do, rarely saying an extra word.
Today, he’d accepted payment from two different people, so he had no choice but to play along
“Is that so?” Lucas frowned and glanced at his own silent phone again.
A phone that didn’t even use half its battery in a full day…
That evening, Bruce delivered the broth Isabelle had made to Damian’s hospital room.
Bruce was starting to feel Damian might not be able to keep up the charade much longer. Being stuck in the middle of the two of them was… awkward.
“You brought this much?” Damian glanced up and asked.
Bruce pressed his lips together, thought for a moment, and said, “Mrs. Cross made a whole big pot. The entire household staff got some, and there’s still plenty left.”
Isabelle had cooked for him a few times early on, but after her studio took off, she hadn’t made anything since. Today was differen –she’d made enough to feed a small crowd.
Lucas watched Damian eating with clear enjoyment, then checked his watch. It was just past seven.
“I’m heading out,” Lucas said. He’d been there all day.
Bruce had come to deliver the food, and soon Louis and the others would arrive for the evening shift. It wouldn’t be appropriate him to overstay.
Besides, he wanted to go see Lynn.
As he walked out, his frown deepened, and his steps unconsciously quickened.
He didn’t know why that woman was on his mind right now, or why he felt this sudden urge to see her.
She’d said she was going out with friends, so she probably wasn’t home, but he just wanted to go back-to be there when she
returned.
Lucas let out a quiet sigh.
