Chapter 403 Sold You to Me
He flicked her forehead sharply with his finger.
“Ow” Kylie covered the spot between her brows.
“You’re young, but your imagination runs wild,” Wilbur teased.
He hadn’t done anything yet, and she was already this scared, treating him like some kind of street thug.

Kylie peeked at him through her fingers. Wilbur had already started the car. She let out a quiet sigh of relief and slowly lowered her
hands.
“What did you want to talk about?” Kylie asked, her heart still pounding. She didnt want to be in this car with him.
“Do you know why your father came today?” Wilbur asked.
“For business, obviously. What else?” she said.
Stephen’s whole life was business. He was so consumed by it that he’d even driven away his wife.
Wilbur gave a cold laugh. “True. It was for business.”
“Why are you asking?”
“Your father sold you to me.”
Kylie stared at him, thinking she’d misheard. “What did you say?” she asked weakly.
“I said, your father sold you to me.” Wilbur’s tone was flat as he glanced at her stunned expression.
Clearly, she hadn’t known. Otherwise, she would have given something away earlier when she walked in with Isabelle.
But Kylie wasn’t good at hiding things.
“My father sold me to you?” Kylie still couldn’t believe it. She turned the words over in her mind, hoping she’d heard wrong.
“That’s right. He sold you to me.”
Kylie’s brain short-circuited.
After a long pause, she murmured, “There’s a ten-year age gap…”
He’s way too old for me…
Wilbur knew it. And he wasn’t happy about it either.
Silence filled the car.
Kylie pressed her lips together, leaned against the window, and watched the rain outside grow heavier.

Recently, Stephen had been in a terrible mood. He couldn’t secure a piece of land for a major project-one that would set him up for the next decade if he got it.

But he kept hitting roadblocks. The previous mayo: hadn’t favored him, so now he was desperate to connect with the newly elected onc, likely with an agenda-
Kylie was starting to understand:-
Tears began to stream down her face.
So I’m just like my mother. A bargaining chip for my father to trade away.
Wilbur glanced over. He could only see her back, but her reflection in the window clearly showed her wiping her tears.
“You don’t want this either, right? I hope we can be on the same side,” he said.
Wilbur was thirty. He didn’t believe in arranged marriages, especially not with someone barely out of her teens. He believed it wasn’t right.
We aren’t even married yet, and she is already crying. What am I supposed to do later?
I can’t just comfort her, can I?
I am thirty. I am not cut out for this.
It’s embarrassing.
Kylie wiped her tears again and stayed quiet.
Whether I marry or not doesn’t really matter anymore. My own father, the man I looked up to, traded me away. What difference does it make who I end up with?
A cold laugh echoed in her mind.
Marrying Wilbur wasn’t the worst fate. At least he was from a good family. At least Stephen didn’t make her marry some overweight man in his fifties.
There was nothing wrong with Wilbur. He was handsome, well-educated, tall… good genes for the future.
His father is the mayor. Maybe then my own father won’t be able to control me anymore.
She slowly bowed her head.
Why am I giving in so easily? Shouldn’t I at least try to fight?
The thought made fresh tears pour down.
Seeing her cry so bitterly, Wilbur didn’t press further.
The car noticeably slowed down.
At a red light, he handed her a tissue.
“Ashley?” Kylie’s voice came out choked.
