The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 102

They had just checked into the hotel when the news broke that Lance had landed the Solenia project. Headlines were everywhere, complete with two photos—one of Catherine and Lance leaving the Gates family estate, the other showing Catherine and Lara chatting in the garden.

Everyone knew Solenia was a big deal. The media had been circling for weeks, ready to pounce on any hint of movement. They must have camped outside the Gates house for hours to get those shots.

Later that afternoon, Catherine and the others flew back to Cabinda. By the time their plane touched down, it was already eight at night. Catherine was heading to baggage claim when her phone rang. It was Lance.

“Adelina’s tired. I’m taking her home first. Drop her suitcase at my place, will you?”

“Sure, no problem.”

She’d been hurrying, worried they’d be waiting on her, but after the call she slowed down. The sweat on her back slowly cooled as she caught her breath.

The airport was quiet and mostly empty. Catherine, small and slender, struggled to drag three suitcases. People kept glancing her way, probably wondering what she was doing alone with so much luggage.

The taxi queue was short. In just a few minutes, she flagged down a cab, dropped off Lance and Adelina’s bags at his apartment, then finally made her way home. By the time she walked in, it was past midnight. She fell straight into bed and was out cold in seconds.

Saturday morning, Catherine woke up naturally, no alarm, no rush. She reached for her phone and froze when she saw all the missed calls. Her chest tightened.

Every call was from work—some from Aaron, some from the PR manager. Her stomach did a nervous flip as she tapped open the news app. The hottest topic was an interview with Mr. and Mrs. Gates.

Harrison spoke warmly about their new partnership with SilverLeaf Industries and praised Lance as young and talented, saying he was thrilled to work with him. Lara, on the other hand, said, “I don’t know much about business, but my husband thinks highly of Lance, so he must be impressive. But it looks like Lance uses all his brains for business, because when it comes to women, his taste is… questionable.”

That last line hit like a slap. Lara hadn’t even tried to hide who she was talking about—Adelina.
