The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 602

Lance rubbed his thumb thoughtfully across the face of his watch. "I'm afraid Harrell won't have a moment of peace from now on."

Catherine took a deep breath. "Harrell is currently pretending to be Jasper's father. Is that going to cause problems?"

"Pretending?" Lance recalled how Harrell had previously announced he was Jasper's father. It was all a ruse?

He had actually thought it was real.

"Doesn't that play perfectly into Davis's hands? It hands him a weapon against Geoffrey on a silver platter."

Catherine wasn't thinking about weapons or leverage. She was just worried that Harrell's lie about being Lorinda's ex-husband would be exposed.

So far, no one had doubted the Lee family's narrative about the triplets.

After finishing the news article, Catherine went back to her meal, her mind a tangled mess.

Once she was full, she looked up, surprised to see Lance still sitting across from her.

The top two buttons of his black shirt were undone, revealing two distinct scratch marks on his collarbone that matched the ones on his wrists. They were glaring reminders of yesterday's wild abandon.

Struggling to maintain her composure, Catherine put down her silverware and stood up to leave.

"Catherine, aren't you going to talk to me?"

Lance finally lost his patience and spoke up.

Catherine paused, took a deep breath, and sat back down.

"I made myself very clear this morning. You owe me a favor—no, actually, forget the favor. Let's just pretend it never happened."

"That's not what I mean," Lance said.

"Then what do you mean?" Catherine asked.

"I mean, we could balance the scales like that a few more times."

As he spoke, his voice dropped an octave, heavy with seductive tension.

"I'm—" Catherine pulled the ointment out of her pocket and waved it in his face.

"I'll wait until you're fully recovered, of course," Lance replied.

Catherine stared at him.
