The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 106

Her chest felt heavy, the air thick and hard to breathe, but what surprised her most was how strangely calm she felt. All she could do now was wait for the verdict.

At ten on Saturday morning, Catherine showed up at the office right on time.

The board members were already there. Without hesitating, she walked straight into the conference room and took her place beside the head of the table. Every eye was on her, their stares sharp and curious.

Lance sat at the table in a black wool coat, his hair slicked back and perfect. He crossed his legs and held the file for the Harrison project, barely acknowledging anyone’s arrival.

The silence in the room was suffocating. It was so quiet, it felt like even the smallest sound would echo.

Everyone was there, but Lance just sat still, saying nothing.

Ladd finally cleared his throat, hand covering his mouth. “Is everyone here?”

Someone answered, “Yes, we’re all here.”

Lance paused, then slowly turned to glance at Catherine.

She stood behind him, heels adding a few inches to her height, her black blouse perfectly pressed. Her head was lowered, her delicate face completely blank. She didn’t look like she planned to say anything.

“Thank you all for coming in again,” Lance said, dropping the file onto the table with a sharp slap.

“Let’s get started.”

Ladd’s eyes landed on Catherine. “Catherine, you work for SilverLeaf Industries, yet you teamed up with a client to badmouth Adelina, which hurt Lance’s reputation and dragged the company into a mess. When did you get so careless?”

Another director chimed in, “And don’t forget last time. She was getting way too close to people from Golden Horizon Enterprises. Honestly, I don’t think her loyalty’s with SilverLeaf anymore.”

A third spoke up, “Why are we even keeping her? Especially as the CEO’s assistant. She sees all our confidential files.”

The directors didn’t stop, one after another piling on. Nobody gave Catherine a chance to explain. It was obvious they’d made up their minds before she even walked in.
