The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 150

People from the secretarial department began to trickle in, each one shooting Catherine a curious look on their way past.

Michelle spotted her first. She set her bag down and made a beeline over.

“Catherine, what are you doing here?”

“Waiting for Lance to show up,” Catherine replied. She hesitated, then tried to ask, “About the vote later, the secretarial department…”

Before she could finish, the elevator chimed and opened.

Lance stepped out, dressed in a light gray suit that fit his tall, slender frame perfectly. His steps were calm and certain, and those sharp eyes of his seemed to see right through everything.

Catherine immediately forgot about asking questions.

Michelle still had her back to the elevator. She kept going, “What vote are we—” She stopped cold as the sound of footsteps reached her. Realizing what was happening, she clammed up and quickly moved aside.

“Lance.”

“Lance.”

They spoke at the same time.

Lance paused, then headed into his office.

Michelle caught Catherine’s eye and gave her a look. “I’ll get back to work,” she said, then hurried off.

Catherine nodded and followed Lance inside.

The office was flooded with early sunlight, the cool-toned decor softened by a golden glow.

She stood in front of his desk, posture straight and tense.

Lance glanced at her, his expression unreadable. “Now that you’re back, do you have any plans for your role here?”

Catherine’s eyes flickered. She hesitated before answering. “The branch office is a good place to gain experience.”

Lance studied her. “Sounds like you don’t really know where you stand.”

The room felt so quiet it was almost suffocating. The pressure Lance gave off was impossible to ignore.

Catherine quickly nodded. “Whatever you decide, Lance, I’ll do it.”

“There was a vote. The secretarial department wants you back as secretary. Are you willing?”
