Belinda was seething, but her anger wasn’t aimed at Catherine. She tossed out the order and marched into the CEO’s office. The door slammed shut behind her with a loud bang that made the whole building seem to tremble.

Catherine stared in surprise at the closed door. She wasn’t just shocked that Belinda hadn’t snapped at her. What really caught her off guard was how furious Belinda was with Lance.

What on earth had Lance done this time?

Just on the other side of the door, everything was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Inside, though, chaos erupted. Well, mostly Belinda’s voice echoed off the walls.

“How could you threaten Adelina? How am I supposed to explain this to the Green family?”

Lance sat there behind his desk, perfectly calm, letting Belinda’s anger wash over him.

“Lance, you can’t be this heartless. Adelina is a good girl. If you don’t appreciate her, fine, but how could you treat her like this?”

Eventually, Belinda ran out of steam. Her tone softened, and she tried to reason with him.

Noticing she’d calmed down, Lance finally spoke, his voice steady. “Is that what she told you?”

“Of course not.” Belinda’s response made it clear she was on Adelina’s side. “She’s always done whatever you say, ever since she was a kid. But the Green family isn’t stupid.”

When Sarah heard from Adelina that she would stop bothering Catherine, she was already fuming. Then, after finding out Adelina had gone so far as to apologize to Catherine in person and bring her back to the company, she called Belinda right away. They needed to know what was going on in Lance’s head.

“If the Green family has a complaint, they can come to me,” Lance said, his words clipped and cool. He clearly didn’t want to argue.

Belinda was so angry she could barely speak. “What kind of attitude is that? When you marry Adelina, they’ll be your in-laws. Even if the James family has more power than the Green family, you can’t just throw your weight around.”

“Then maybe they should think about whether it was right to use their influence against Catherine.”
